you’re in the minority and on a hockey message board in August. You’re a sports fan and you’re going to continue to watch sports.

they’re raising awareness on excessive violence against American citizens on the streets of this country. You’re tying overseas manufacturing abuse to it because whataboutism is the easy way to dismiss a cause you don’t agree with.

don’t watch (we know you will) That’s your choice but don’t bring this garbage here. The athletes are standing up for their fellow citizens and they should be applauded.

Preach it.

Milbury is not this terrible monster you're all making him out to be.

He just tells the truth..

Question is.. Are you just that fragile?

If so, you should just kick your own ass for being a dumbass lol
It’s not about telling the truth or not. If you spoke the truth 100% of the time you would most likely not have a job nor friends.

So take out the anthem, take out military appreciation if you hate it so much, I don't care anymore I just want to watch the game

It's not their platform. it's the fans platform. I don't need to hear hypocrites like LeBron James lecture me about how every bad thing that happens to a person with dark skin is racist and then the next day ignore the people getting sent to concentration camps in China because he needs to sell sneakers.
Can’t help ya then. It’s their platform, not the fans. If I want to scream about politics at work then that’s a fan’s platform. I’ll lose no sleep over missing two nights of hockey after it wasn’t played for 5 months.

Whether or not they’re hypocrites, you don’t like that they’re using the platform to talk about things you don’t like. If it was Brett Favre or Curt Schilling spewing some bullshit you agreed with you’d probably be commending them for speaking up. It’s transparent as f***.

We can’t help that a bunch of snowflakes want the big bad athletes to never say anything that can hurt their sensibilities ever.

Last I checked, the hockey playoffs are ongoing in August.

I was onboard with the BLM movement. Cops were too. But then something crazy happened. BLM and antifa burned down cities, smashed and looted businesses, and killed innocent people, many of them black like David Dorn and that kid in Seattle who was sleeping in his car.

On a personal level, my wife was robbed at gun point by 3 black men in soho a few weeks back. You can read that story in the season tickets thread. They mocked her and assaulted her. There's been no empathy for her, and she's an immigrant. They took her phone, engagement ring, her grandmother's necklace, and left her with a couple bruises. You didnt see that in the news because, guess what, its a regular occurence in NYC now. But you know what, I don't blame BLM and antifa for that, this is all De Blasio's fault.

I could care less than about the national anthem. Sit for it, stand for it, do the macarena for it, get rid of it, it makes no difference to me.

But to say these people care about social justice at this point is a farce. They're agitators who are using a serious issue as an excuse to be criminals. The NBA, MLB, NHL, an NFL players don't actually care. They don't go to protests. They make cute tweets from their mansions and 5 star hotels while posting pictures of their Gatorade and Nike.

As for being a sports fan. Yes, I have always loved sports. But there is a serious problem in sports outside the scope of social justice.

Ill address the NFL. The quality of product is bad. Really bad. I have watched maybe 5 NFL games since 2015. It feels like I'm watching the WWE. The refs decide every game and the players could care less about winning. The culture of the NFL is just awful. It's not a team sport anymore. It's a showcase of divas who don't care one bit about the quality of competition they put out on the field. And the ownership is just as bad. Add to it the concussions issue, and parents not allowing their kids to play football, and we are starting to see the quality of talent start to decrease across the board. The owners won't care about the product until it impacts their bottom dollar. I believer the NFL is going to have a big contraction soon. I will not be watching it again.

The MLB is the exact same. I will not be watching it again and I haven't been since about 2014.

The NBA and NHL are the only leagues that actually care about their players. And i feel NBA and NHL players care about winning still, unlike MLB and NFL players. But to say they should be applauded for pretending to care about social justice is laughable. They should put their money where there mouth is and tear up their endorsement contracts from companies backed by slave labor. They should leave their mansions and go to the front of the lines of the peaceful protests during the day. Then I'll take their boycott seriously. Until then, it's just empty words. They should be leading by example 'we care about human rights and black lives, we gave up all this money and now the entire manufacturing industry has changed because of us and we are on the phone with police buereaus and unions, using our platform and working hand in hand with them on police reform as well as contributing to and starting chairites to help the victims of this violence'. But they won't, because it's empty words from divas spewing nothing onto twitter from their mansions with armed security.

I won't be watching the NHL again this year.

The NBA would rather have China's business than the USA's if they were forced to choose, and for that, I'm out of the NBA. They care more about Chinese dollars, than black lives.

Agree or disagree, I don't care.

That's cool. If your plan is to stop watching hockey, you should do us all a solid and stop bloviating/posting here.

A long winded rant of political correctness, whataboutism, and cancel culture wrapped into one. Topped off with the very obvious (and hilariously whiny) lie of "I won't be watching the NHL again this year." Suuuuurrrreeeee.

I won't be.
You see, the crazy thing is, I really don't need the NHL for entertainment. I can do other things. Just like they really don't need my viewership.
But there are a lot of people out there that see it my way, and that will add up and impact the bottom dollar. It already has with NBA viewership.

Surely.

When in reality, it probably won't move the needle at all. Or the pandemic will move the needle big time and this will become the convenient red herring to point to instead.

FFS, guys, earlier this year, NASCAR has showed solidarity with this movement. The tide has turned.

Maybe stop spending so much time complaining about what the athletes are doing and actually devote some to understanding why they're doing it.
No, they need to shut up and play so we can bury our heads in the sand and pretend the country isn’t crumbling down around us

Never in my life, when hit with a complex, multi-layered problem, have I thought to myself.... Let me ask Lebron James.... I wonder what his take is.

Amazing post. Boil down the boycotts of several leagues to “hurr sure I’d never ask Lebrun James about a humanitarian issue despite his many many years of humanitarian work while I sit here and whine behind my keyboard” you’re f***ing pathetic

This 'movement' will most likely be gone after the election. The same thing happened in 2016... However it was no where near as violent.

Very curious on how people would have reacted during the Civil Rights movements back in the day had technology of this level been around. Should I bet the over or under on how many people would have been saying the same things that are said now?
Imagine what a thread for Jackie Robinson’s debut would have been like?

it would have been high level cancer
