The Caps Cup in 2018 was similar to when the NY Giants won the recent Super Bowls; good teams that got really hot at the right time and also were very lucky. Brett Connolly and Devante Smith-Pelley should never have to buy a drink in the DC Metropolitan Area again. What they did that postseason was like Stephane Matteau^10

I've commented this a few times but Carl Hagelin doesn't in the slightest way resemble the Rangers or even Penguins Carl Hagelin when he was literally the fastest man alive and was a dog chasing a bone winning every board battle for the puck.

It's a shame the Rangers have so many LWs and the Caps have a goalie prospect in Samsonov who is taking over because I'd love to work out something with Georgiev/Buch for Vrana plus. Can he play center? :)

McLellan is a smart dude so I doubt they trade Vrana and it turns into a Zubov or Seguin situation for them.

I think they'll try a final retool for the next two years, probably bring in Laviolette or Gallant is my guess.

For a team that has Heiskanen and Klingberg leading the transition Dallas sure has trouble generating shots and goals sometimes. Is Seguin playing injured? He has no goals in 7 games.

Will Washington break it up?

I can't see a big shakeup happening until OV is due for a new contract, so they'll wait until after next season before any big decisions. This playoff format/timing/situation is weird for everyone in different ways and we have no idea what effect it has on specific players or teams, other than it's clear that it does has an effect, be it positive or negative. As far as I'm aware the Caps don't have a great prospect pool at all and most players they could or would want to move would require a lateral type trade where a similar caliber roster player is coming back, not a prospect. Not if they want to give it a serious run next season with OV, Backstrom, Kuza, Oshie, Wilson, Carlson, Orlov, etc still intact.

Not sure what the situation with Samsonov is, if he'll be ready next season or not and if they're willing to go at it with him and someone else (Vanecek?) but I'd have to assume that they'd be sellers at the TDL if the season is going to shit. They have vets that some young teams could want to add for a run, but with the cap staying flat for the foreseeable future it looks pretty rough for them. None of those contracts are rental friendly. Kuza and Wilson are their best trade chips, along with maybe Orlov...

For now, maybe they'd try to move 1-2 of Eller, Hagelin or Panik. Not really sure what they'd get out of that. If we had the space I'd be looking at Eller or Hags to add to the bottom six, if they were signed for a year less than they are (and I do mean if we had ample space like Hank retiring, and really only if they were signed for 2 more years and not three) so, basically no.

Maybe Montreal would be interested in Eller. I think Kovy will end up with them on a trial.

TL;DR: I can see maybe some lateral moves and a push for a cup run before OV is a UFA but big sellers at TDL if nothing is working, and I can't see that going well.

I feel like Calgary is always seconds away from making a drastic change to their team, if they blow this game and get eliminated, someone/thing is going to shake loose there this offseason
