I doubt it, outside of letting Holtby walk, maybe trading like a Vrana or someone tooWill Washington break it up?
They probably should start considering it. Ovechkin and Backstrom are on the wrong side of 30. Ovechkin is 2 years away from free agency. Oshie plays a heavy game that has burdened his body so often already in his career. Holtby has looked bad and should not be brought back. Don’t know what their D pipeline looks like but this current one is just awful. Will Washington break it up?
I feel like it took Washington so long to actually close the deal, that by the time they did they were already knocking on the door of their inevitable decline.
WashingtonYeah at least they got their cup.
Lightning are straddling that line where if they don't win this year or next, They're kind of f***ed.

Piles have taken advantage of good matchups for them against Florida and Washington. They could beat Philly too but it will end when they play Boston or Tampa.
I'm pulling for the MTL comeback.
Because 1. f*** AV and 2. Boston will stomp the NYI.
It’s gonna be Lightning Islanders if MTL comes back in the 2nd round.
Dammit.
Yeah there’s no scenario islanders and Boston can play in round 2 unfortunately
They play Philly. The other series would be TB-BOS, who I think are the two best teams in the East.Who do the Islanders play if Philly wins?
Not as frustrating as a Rangers fan watching Hank never win a cup....Most of the Caps' core now has their best years behind them. Ovi is 34, Backstrom 32, Oshie 33, Carlson 30, Holtby 30 and probably gone as a UFA. I'd assume Kovy and Gudas will also be gone. Time to retool and add more young players to go along with Kuznetsov, Wilson, Vrana and Samsonov. It does feel like a big missed opportunity considering how late in Ovi's career they finally won a Cup, 9 years after Crosby won his first and the players both entered the league in the same year. Must be frustrating as a Caps fan because a number of these playoff losses during the Ovi era came against teams with a worse record/less talent or both.
Philly
