Saw a tweet yesterday: “blocking shots is like killing rats. You might have to do it once in a while but if you’re finding rats all the time, you have a bigger problem.”
Yep. 110% agree and it's been a tweet in my back pocket ever since I saw it. It just encapsulates the stat so well.

I should have added a ;) to the end of my original post :P

crazy stat mentioned on spittin chicklets...Luke Schenn won the cup with Tampa and his brother Brayden won it last year with the Blues. You'd think that would be pretty rare but it is the SEVENTH time in nhl history that a pair of brothers have won the cup in back to back years on different teams. Last time it happened was Tony Esposito (with Montreal in 1969) and Phil Esposito (with boston in 1970)

tweet is gone what did it say?

they must have deleted and reposted...habs announced they gave qualifying offers to Max Domi, Charles Hudon,Victor Mete,Xavier Ouellet and Noah Juulsen...Cap friendly points out the remaining guys that will now be UFAs.

I assume that we will start seeing this from all teams and it might be noteworthy to keep track of what players don't get qualified.

I would take him back in a heart beat for the right deal. He wouldn't need to be a 30 goal scorer on this team or anything. A bottom six player with speed, can kill penalties well, and can chip in once in a while. What's not to like?

Would be nice to pay a player who was bought out , actually play for us instead of against us.

As a Tampa fan, I completely agree. He is a great locker room guy. He is well below average defensively. In fact, he got owned many times in the playoffs. And beyond getting embarrassed on one-on-ones, he was repeatedly out of position in the defensive zone and failed to cover his man. But he provided the exact niche our unique roster needed: a third pairing PP specialist who can put pucks on net from the blue line (something Tampa has historically struggled with). A team that signs him next season to play on one of their top pairs will be immensely disappointed.
This checks out. I think the Caps made this assessment right before he hit FA. Seems to have been dead-right. He definitely is a useful player but a luxury item for-sure.

Feels like the Blues are acting like gigantic babies through Pietrangelo's whole contract negotiations
Seems that way. But in these kind of protracted negotiations/relationships, there’s usually more than one legitimate narrative. I wouldn’t make any judgement yet. Same as with Lias and so many others.
