So glad Callahan retired right before this. I don’t think I could have handled seeing that scrub lift the cup.

I Like Callahan, but after having to hear Pierre keep talking about how he's "the kind of guy you just win with" for the past few seasons I'll admit to having a little chuckle thinking about how TBL got it done once he was gone...

Dude...Cally was far far from a scrub with us. Did you ever watch him actually play? He was a damn good Ranger both on and off the ice. Not sure where the heck you come up with Cally being a scrub as I shake my head at actually reading this drivel....ugggg.....

Winning the Cup without fans in the arena ... idk ... feels just weird.

Glad it wasn't a team winning it for the first time.

edit: f*** Shattenkirk btw

eh, it's just like playing peewee. only your parents are there to cheer you on.
whatever Shattenkirk. He can't be salty about the buy out now. I mean, yeah F him for showing up to New York in such bad shape and playing himself out of town but I dunno, I guess I'm over it.

Hedman is a heck of a player. Quintessential hockey player. 6’6 defenseman who is a great skater, physical specifimen, has a career high of 72 points in 79 games, had 55 in 66 games this year. Still UNDER 30, Conn Smyth winner with 10 goals and 21 points in 24 playoff games while providing 1A shutdown defense. Beast.

He is unique.

It’s funny because I half consciously/unconsciously always tries to create a framework when evaluating kids, so to be able to, within those frames, pin down kids. Hedman — in terms of being a “sure thing” — is IMO unique. The ‘surest’ thing I’ve seen. Remember posting about that during his draft year. 6’6 D, who skates exceptionally well, heavy shot, great attitude. Something exceptional would have to happen for him to ‘not’ peak as at least a top 3-5 Norris candidate.

He kind of sets the bar really high, almost too high. ‘This kid is a sure thing!’ ‘Nah, Hedman was a sure thing, he is pretty far from being at that level.’ ;)

I will say this much for Tampa- over the last 5-7 years, and maybe even the last 16 or so years, they’ve shown what happens when you can find good talent throughout the draft, have the added boost of getting those elite talents at the top of the draft, and don’t get so attached to players that you’re afraid to move them for assets to replenish and regroup.

For sure, but I still want to add, they did this — without — getting top talent high in the draft. Stamkos played what 3 minutes.

Yzerman deserves all the credit for this win. He did everything I want a GM to do.
1. Create clear interchangeable roles all through the roster. Many of these roles can be filled by players that are a bit flawed in some senses, meaning that they aren’t overly hard to find.
2. Hand pick kids for those roles. It promotes their development so much. If they are good enough, they are so easy to get onto the roster.
3. He always made sure to provide his kids with strong veteran support. Many ridiculed him for that. But history shows very clearly that so much can go wrong when kids are hanged out to dry. It’s never easy, the alternatives aren’t cheap. Of course Cally, Filpulla and co weren’t great signings. But...

Has anyone heard yet what Stammer's injury is? Figured it may have leaked or slipped after they won.

McD is in a dream spot with Tampa. Part of the leadership core with Stamkos and Hedman. Doesn’t have to be the best defenseman on the team, let alone best player. Looking at his contract status, he might consider himself a Lightning first and foremost by the end of his career.
Me thinks he’s Seattle bound to help out their cap crunch

uh... what? Their second overall draft pick literally won the Conn Smythe.

McDonagh has a no trade, not a no move. Tampa doesn't have to protect him. Not sure if Seattle would take that deal off their hands but Tampa could try

All I care about at the end of the playoffs is a detailed injury list. Stamkos, Seguin, etc.

How long did it take for fans to learn that Zuccarello didn't just have a headache, but had to re-learn how to SPEAK.
