Both of these happened today

Seriously. What happened to him?

Well, he’s had an Achilles injury, a knee surgery, a couple other lower body injuries and is heavily rumored to be playing injured. I’m guessing that some of those lower body injuries have caught up to him speedwise but he still looks pretty good to me, honestly. The most accurate definition of “snake bitten” I’ve seen in a long time. He’s in the midst of a lot of action and opportunities. He’s physical. He’s good on the draw. He PKs. He just can’t finish. Obviously if it carries on long term, that’s concerning, but from every objective angle, he seems to be hurt. He was also a scratch during at least one of the play in games.

Might be premature but it's nice that after all that building and hype that Tampa Bay will finally get their cup. I hate them for knocking us out in 2015 but I have to say its well deserved.

It's scary how identical he looks to 2014 Rick Nash.

The Pens have always made a lot with minimal defensive talent. I remember when they won the cup in 2016, half of their d-core was Dumoulin, Cole, and Lovejoy and I wrote them off. FLA sheds some contract.

Dumoulin was a really good player in 2016.

This was under different people running their D, an older Letang as your bell cow and just an overall older roster. I get that you need to try and compete as long as Crosby and Malkin are there, but the moves Rutherford has made this summer have been really bad.

Throwback to early 2018 when I was hoping Matheson could be acquired to supplement a top-four with Skjei, Shattenirk, and Pionk...

Matheson isn't bad but he isn't like, good.

I'm not sure what the particular interest is for the Pens.
That's what I've been saying too. You got Pens fans saying he's worse than Johnson, which isn't even remotely true.

The contract is an issue for sure, but Matheson is not nearly as bad as Jack Johnson

Nah, he's an NHL defenseman and skates crop circles around Jack Johnson.

But he's a guy I maybe sign to be my 6D, not a guy I actively make a move for.

Hornqvist kinda sucked last year so I guess there's that but he can still score.

Bad things don't happen to the Pens. Matheson will probably win a Norris with them at some point with their luck.
Yeah they'll call up f***in, idk, Joel Goodberry from Scranton halfway through and he'll score 36 goals.

The Pens finding random assets is right up there with the Lightning and the bottomless salary cap.

Tell me about it. I was at the game where Guentzel made his debut and scored two goals against us. At least we came back and won it but that was a shit show to start.

they demonstrate Super stars can sometimes win Cups with little help offensively from the backline. Literally, defense can hang back, the goalie can play well and the stars can win it.

Beside the hot cup of Coffey they’ve won Cups many times since the Super Mario days like that.
