So we need to root for either Calgary/Dallas winner and Vancouver to somehow make it to WCF. Won't be easy but some rooting interest nonetheless.
In the East dare I say the islanders can help improve our pick. No one else really can since the Habs look close to done

The only other scenario we should be actively rooting for is Vancouver to get to the WCF.

Not only does it push the Carolina pick up a spot, it drops one of the Devils' picks to 28-31.

A Montreal comeback would also be welcome. I'd gladly take an epic Islander collapse at the expense of moving up a slot. The LULZ>1 draft spot.

I thought it was just if any team ranked lower than Carolina advances to the second round, we move up +1?

Did Amazing Kreiderman’s graphic lie?

His graphic says we move up if those teams make the final 4... which is the conference final.

So, no... it didn't lie

Vancouver
Dallas:Calgary winner
Islanders
Montreal
Arizona

Those are the teams that can move the Canes pick up for us by making the conf finals, so realistically just the top 3 teams as Montreal is probably cooked and Arizona is definitely cooked.

I usually don't like trading down but I am not confident in the Rangers NOT going off the board with our Skjei pick.
Maybe Anaheim would trade up and include their second to move up 5-6 slots? Maybe the Sharks would with their Tampa pick???

Seems strange to me that Dallas' playoff advantage wouldn't be reflected in the draft order, like division winners are in previous years. I haven't read anything that rules that out so I'm keeping my options open!

I'm 95% sure I read that somewhere. I think what I'm thinking of is this: No. 1 pick in NHL Draft Lottery to be decided Aug. 10 by second drawing

Picks 4-8 were determined based on inverse order of regular-season points percentage.
Picks No. 9-15 will be assigned to the other teams that lose the eight qualifier series, in inverse order of their points percentage.
Picks 16-31 will be determined by the results of the playoffs.

So I guess I just applied what they said about inverse order for 4-8 and 9-15 to 16-31. I think that's reasonable, but I guess you're right that it's not "confirmed."

Dallas didn't have a playoff advantage any more than a team clinching a playoff spot with 10 games remaining has a playoff advantage.

I'm tired of needing a cheat sheet to figure out draft picks.

I'm hoping that soon enough we just make it easy and pick 32nd...
You mean 31st right? why wait until Seattle comes into the league ;)

chytil looks pretty good for an off the board late 1st. skjei, miller, and kreider were good picks in the late teens early 20s too.

What is going off the board at 22-24? There are so many good options at that point, Were Chytil, Miller and Lundkvist so bad as ‘off-the board’ picks?

Even if it’s 24, with what happened with Covid, and the flat cap, the Rangers caught a break dumping that money when they did.
