Disagree Loki. They wouldn't have won tonight if they were as weak as your saying. Tonight was huge for their confidence. I see them winning the series now in 5 as I said before. All those other teams you mention...Caps,Canes,Philly and Bruins all have warts of their own. I obviously have hitched my wagon to the Lightning getting out of the East as per my bracket I did.

I didn't just do it on a whim. I thought long and hard about my picks and I just feel that this is the year Tampa puts it all together and makes it to the Cup where as I said, I think they lose to Colorado. We'll see who ends up being right...looking forward too it!

I’ll Venmo you $10 if they make the ECF. :naughty:

I just don’t think Tampa has playoff success written any time in their future. They don’t have what it takes.

how does bob murray still have a job after giving away theodore to get vegas to promise to not pick other dmen

Vegas are a well constructed team, damn. They don't really have anyone that makes your jump out of your seat but they are well balanced, well coached, tough, smart, and deep. After the Blues last year, if they win it this year there might be a new blueprint that teams will try and copy.

I hate Vegas. An expansion team that makes the finals in their first year and has never missed the playoffs. F them.

It's fantastic for the sport and honestly, it's fantastic for the Rangers as a big market team. I hope they do well and I hope teams like Florida, Dallas, etc do well too as long as it's not at the expense of the Rangers. If we all want the cap to keep increasing we need those smaller market or expansion teams to do well.

Another team that doesn't have a "true" 1c but is deep all around.

I don't know if they have enough on defense to get it done, but they are good.

Why nobody realizes that they were basically given 30 NHL level players when they started, and automatically became the deepest team in the league is beyond me. The players they got weren't necessarily cast offs or guys who could barely make a roster. They got Top 9 forward talent and second pair talent on D. With ice time, those type players can become Top 6 and top pair players.

Even the BEST NHL team doesn't have 30 NHL level players they can plug and play.

They are NOT an expansion team in the historical sense.

EXACTLY. Something is wrong when an expansion team plays for a league's championship in their first year and nobody is going to convince me otherwise. Every other expansion team before them in any major sport had to suffer for the first few years before they drafted and collected enough quality players to make them competitive. Not today's NHL though. Give them 500 mil and anything is possible. We haven't made the playoffs in 4 straight years and counting and Vegas hasn't missed the playoffs in their existence. It's bullshit.

The "we had to suffer for the first few years before becoming good, so they should suffer as well" viewpoint is a thing that shouldn't exist, tbh

Why exactly? No other expansion team in this league or any other was gifted the players that Vegas was. Every other team had to go through the normal growing pains of a young franchise before they became competitive. Pay the NHL half a billion dollars and they will give you a chance at the Stanley cup. I guess thats ok with some people. It's not with me.

They should not have been the deepest team in the league. That's the argument. It's not whether they were supposed to "suffer" or not. An expansion team should not automatically become an immediate contender. They didn't build anything. They were handed a competitive team without having to do anything other than plunk down $500 M.

it is not Vegas' fault that other GMs are stupid. teams could have sat back and let them take a player in the expansion draft and then it would have been no different than any other expansion team.

Because it's a garbage viewpoint that exists across not just sports, but general life, politics, etc.

It's a type of survivorship bias, and presenting yourself as a persistent victim, and it just means that you don't like change that makes participation more accessible to newcomers.

Imagine wanting teams/people/etc. to "suffer" just so they can participate in something. It's sadistic and dumb.

Is it Vega's fault that a solid third of GMs in the league were stupid and gave them great players, which made them good enough to compete for a Cup in their first year? Preposterous.

Blame other teams for being dumb, not Vegas for being smart to pounce on the idiocy of other teams.

Now back to ignore you go. Move along.

They were handed a competitive team because a good handful of other teams GMs were bad. A lot of NHL teams have average/bad management, and Vegas was smart and took advantage of that.
