When I was in FL I went to 0 Panthers games because they had Barkov. I went to several games because tickets were free, in the area, Rangers were playing, free t-shirt, etc. And I'm one of you psychos who actually care about hockey.

If the Rangers had Kyle Connor I would be exactly 0% more likely to go to a game than I am currently.

Do you, but I find it best to avoid absolutes and assumptions.

I go to events for perceived entertainment value. Even when I was a broke punk kid back in the 80s, I found ways to see Pink Floyd 3rd row center, be at game 7 of the 86 World Series, and went through heaven and hell to get tickets to the 86 NLCS game 5 cuz prime Dwight Gooden was going against Nolan Ryan (and that was a great f***ing game!).

I went to a plethora of early-to-mid 80s Islanders games and every 80s Oilers team that came into NY, cuz those were all-time great teams to go see live.

Whether I did or did not have the money, I almost always found a way to see events I wanted to see, and it was always based on the event. I don't care one iota about cost, handouts, or promos. But I will pay good money and drive 9 hours to see an event I think is gonna be memorable and worth seeing.

This is what I posted a page or so back as well. Both view points are valid. I have plenty of friends who go for cheap beer and cheap tickets. In fact, we all go to Allen Americans games for those exact reasons. It’s just a cheap fun activity we can do. But, as my post mentions, when it comes to NHL games where it’s usually myself, my girl and her son, I am the one choosing the tickets and I almost always choose based on only two variables; our schedule (can we actually make it to that game) and the opponent (is it someone I want to see). My girl and her son are firmly Stars fans. I’ve adopted them in a casual way, because I live near Dallas, but they will never come remotely close (only god knows why) to NYR, so I never really care if they win or lose - I just want to see great players and good hockey. For that reason I’ve been to multiple Oilers games to see McDrai. I’ve been to Caps games to see Ovie’s record pursuit. I’ve been to Chicago games after Bedard was drafted. I’ve been to Ottawa games to see Stutz and Tkachuk and Sanderson. I’ve been to Colorado games to see Mack/Mak. I also went to the Rangers win against Dallas in December when they were the only playoff team the Rangers won against during like an 18 game stretch, because I wanted to see my team even though we were sucking. For me - and therefore, I have to imagine for some others as well - the quality of the talent I get to see that night is more of a draw than cheap beer promotions. I’m pre-gaming anyway.

I remember when half the board was in their teens or early 20s. Meanwhile another board I'm on everyone was like their 40s-60s. So in my head it has always been a young board. But maybe we've had no new young blood since then and these guys grew up.

Hundred percent. Or as the younger guys (who aren’t here) would say, hundo P.

This account was a replacement for one I lost my log-in information for plenty far back, and that account probably had been active for 8-10 years as well. I think it was named Samuel Culpepper in the end. I don’t even remember, I know I changed my username a few times back then (Loki hadn’t come into my life and become my little guardian angel yet). I think I’d been deployed for like 13 months and when I got back home I couldn’t for the life of me remember my password. I really don’t remember.

Either way, my impression has always been that we have some guys in their late 20s, a ton of folks in their 30s and 40s and some older experts who remember the invention of ice skates, but very, very few posters under the age of ~28 or so. It’s probably one of the reasons I enjoy it here so much. I’m certainly not the oldest poster at 38, but we actually have mostly mature and intelligent discourse here even when staunchly disagreeing with one another.

I know the Rangers have a big fan base compared to most teams but didn't realize the extent of it until I went to see them in South Florida and again at the Mullet in AZ last season.

I actually felt bad for Coyotes fans because it felt more like a home game for the Rangers. Sunrise, FL wasn't that bad but still a nice sea of blue throughout the arena.

And then proceeded to speculate wildly despite the fact that Allen and Keefe both said Markstrom was in good spirits, doing a bit better, he was able to eventually skate himself off of the ice after struggling initially and all Keefe said was “he’s gonna miss some time” which could literally be, he tweaked something and it’s swollen and tender so we’re gonna give him a week or two off so as not to rush things.

I’m glad that “Dr. Injury Expert” speculating on X (of all places) is what our news stories are based on in these advanced modern times.

(Not criticizing you for posting it, just saying…)

Entirely up to yourself whether you want to classify that as being a bad fan or not, though.
