lotsa folks hate how the loser point skews the standings
I'v often thought about what might better reflect performance
here are 2 approaches
the First/Left standings are just today's standings sorted by points % as league does it today
Middle standings reflect "points earned of points awarded" which is points-earned divided by(GP+OTGP) ie accounting for the loser point
the right standings are my radical approach of ranking based on "5 point games" to reward earning points by playing hockey rather than shootout -
RW: 5 pts; OTW:4 pts; SOW:3 pts; SOL: 2pts; OTL: 1 pt
not expecting league to adopt, but it may better reflect which teams play better and win more
where both changes really shows affect of "loser point' among top teams is standings 4-11,
the change pulls Carolina, Edmonton, Colorado ahead of Boston, Toronto, Dallas
