OT: Around the NHL: Final stretch to the playoffs

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server

Honestly, I don't mind this. All of the drama makes up for the years where they eliminated the Pens in the playoffs. If that series from 2016 was a Netflix special, then this would be a full season.

Speaking of drama it's gonna be hilarious when the Canucks keep a 32yr old JT Miller who is basically the lockerroom version of Tortorella over the 26yr old Elias Pettersson because of the rift between the two. Classic dumb guy JR move, you can see it from 10 miles away.

JT has a full NMC which he supposedly has said he intends to use if need be.
EP has 1 but it doesn't kick in until next year.

The out-of-town schedule was almost nearly perfect for us tonight. Not that we deserve it, but we could still be in a playoff spot if we win tomorrow. We probably won't win tomorrow, though. We play Florida, who played tonight, which is good, but they lost in regulation (the one game that didn't go our way), which is bad.

Edit: I'm wrong. Ottawa also plays tomorrow, against St. Louis. So we need to win our game and also have Ottawa lose in regulation. With that said, Ottawa will be tired against a rested St. Louis team, so them losing is possible.

Also, Tampa lost to San Jose in regulation, and Tampa has a brutal schedule this month. They might find themselves in a surprise slide down the standings.

The Seas have three(!) games at hand on the Pens.

Winter Classic with awful ratings. I was looking for it on New Year’s Day and didn’t realize it had happened the day before.

I wish they would just make the all star game the winter classic.

Yeah, the Winter Classic kinda lost it's luster about a decade ago.

NHL.com just did their quarter-century team for Seattle, and guess what... all of them are still playing for the Kraken! Legendary!

Spencer Carbury doesn't f*** around. Seravalli mentioned one of his quotes. Paraphrasing here, but he wants his players to show that their record early on wasn't them getting the bounces.

Since Dec. 1 ^
Going into the season, I would have expected 4 of those teams to be in the top 10 in GF/G. A few in the top 5.

Not sure even a savant could accurately predict things regularly in this league. We're #4 btw. Columbus #5 lol

The Kings played a damn near perfect game last night, and still lost. I'm all for structure and a team game, but a player like McDavid - or even a level below - can win you the game. Brings me back to when teams would game plan for Sid and Geno, only to look like amateurs.

CBJ are legit and a fun team to watch too. Werenski should be getting Norris love but doesn’t play in Canada or a favorable market.

I've been listening to this podcast with Jimmy Murphy and Pierre McGuire, and I'll be honest... it isn't bad. I know McGuire isn't everyone's cup of tea, but he's fine here. The issue with him was that live sports isn't the time to cram the oral history of hockey into thirty-second bites.

Didn't Derrian Hatcher break like four of Sid's teeth in his first game against Philly? The kinda shit Sid (and Geno) have dealt with their entire careers is nuts.

I'll never forget Downie purposely trying to break Sid's leg and blow out his knee in a game against Tampa. Most egregious, blatant shit I've ever seen.

People are right that this league's been f***awful at protecting its players, but it's been that way for decades. I'm not even a guy who gives a shit about fighting, wouldn't miss it if they outright banned it, but they should get rid of the instigator just so guys have some modicum of protection out there cuz the league sure as shit doesn't do anything to deter or even appropriately punish cheapshots.
