Around the NHL 2025 playoff edition

I've been having this random thought here, so I may as well share.

Can anyone imagine Lou on commentary? Like a color commentator somewhere? Or secondary color commentator? Not for us, but just for anyone? Or on these TNT/ESPN games?

I think it would be possibly entertaining.

I'd much rather read a book written by Lou. On anything.

Only if you want to learn how many different ways you can say 'no comment'

I'm sure this is a Fitz/Penguin tie-in somehow, but I don't think that's true nor fair.

I did forget that Sullivan could be interested in the Boston job. He is a Masshole after all.
That team needs to rebuild, I don't see him going to Boston.

I'm sure he's already got a deal in place with the rags, but we'll see.

He’s coached there already. He was the coach when they traded away Joe Thornton.

True, but he did kind of get screwed back then by the lockout and a short tenure. His first season they were great, his second season and subsequent firing they were awful.

I forgot he was an assistant in NY for a few years there too. Coinciding with when Drury was there.

And he'd also be going there now when they're more or less starting a rebuild. The Ranger$ are probably a more likely option for him

I’ve been calling Sullivan to the Rangers for a while now. I thought he’d potentially be Gallant’s replacement, but they didn’t fire him after the first playoff miss.

I’ve been saying not to rule out Boston though. I could see him going there.

But the Rangers seem to be too obvious.

Yeah, he's probably headed to NY. Issue is that they did skip him over to hire AV back in 2014. Not sure if there'll be resentment from Sullivan's side. He could wind up taking a random job else like Anaheim. He could realize that not winning with Sid/Malkin for a decade that he needs to go to a younger team as opposed to a cooked core like NYR.

I don't know. Sullivan also had a front seat to ownership / management dysfunction. They accomplished a lot when he was an assistant but that was probably the most lunch pail Rangers team I've ever seen in my lifetime and their current roster is anything but that team.

I agree here, the chances he goes to NYR is tough because it makes all the sense in the world until you look at their roster and he realizes he's going from 2 first ballot Hall of Famers to Zibanejad/Panarin who both look terrible this year.

Meanwhile, an opening like the Ducks has guys like Carlsson, McTavish, Sennecke, Terry, Zellweger, Mintyukov, etc.

It all depends on whether the prestige of coaching at MSG and the almost certainly larger paycheck is more appealing to him. Putting it that way, the Ducks fit him like a glove, and the chronically absentee ownership situation in Anaheim is still better than the penny wise-pound foolish FSG bean counters in Pittsburgh or James Dolan.

I honestly hope he goes west because the Ducks look primed to make a leap with a real coach behind the bench and I also hate the narrative connecting the Rags to any shiny toy that comes onto the market. I understand that Sullivan won't help them any, but it's the principle that matters. They need to not get anything they want as soon as it's available and I hate hearing hockey media connecting them to everything. I am nothing if not spiteful.

The Rangers have coach killed 2 guys already that have had success elsewhere in the league with worse rosters, you'd have to be hard headed as f*** if you're Sullivan to think you're the guy to get through to them but hey, be my guest. Chances are he'll flounder and get blamed for the shortcomings of Zibanejad and crew.

I’d have to think he knows the reason they went AV over him is because they always go for the bigger name. Which is why Knoblauch was never head coach for the NHL Rangers and was passed over for Laviolette.

At that time AV was a way bigger name and more accomplished head coach.

Sullivan is currently the biggest name/most accomplished out there right now. At least out of guys who aren’t almost 70 years old (Torts) or who haven’t coached in 4 years and are close to 70 years old like Q.

I don’t really blame the Rangers for killing Gallant. He just isn’t that good.

The Rangers just “Killed” Gallant a little more quickly than the last 3 teams did.

His average head coaching stint was about 2.5 years before the Rangers, which was only 2 years.

Gallant isn't good but everything he said about that core turned out to be true. Zibanejad is what this board thinks of Bratt being a soft Swede

Oh right, Q is also linked to Anaheim. He gets good on-ice results, but we all know that's not why he shouldn't be hired.

I do wonder if Pandolfo is going to get some interest. I doubt he gets hired this year, but I bet he'll get a couple of interviews.

The Nikishin contract dispute with Carolina is weird. I thought he was signed, but I guess he wasn't? He was listed as a scratch in Sunday's game and has been practicing with the team, but hasn't officially signed his contract? Odd.

Dundon being Dundon I guess

Or they're just playing head games, the way we are calling Luke and Dillon's injuries day to day lmao

Any chance we fire Keefe to hire Sullivan, since it was rumored last year that he wanted out of Pittsburgh to come here?!:sarcasm:
