He will be 33 when he's up for another contract, I see him as a forever Jet and probably takes the same money as he is making with this contract maybe a small bump, question is term.
I don't see it being a static salary. The Jets gave Wheeler a raise, a healthy raise for leading the team. Adam Lowry is leading this team. Probably should get higher nominations for Selke voting, like top 3 finalist. His actual salary next year is $2.5 million. There's probably 100 players in the NHL that Adam Lowry is outperforming at that salary. And quite a few more making more. I think he gets a number in the 5s with the Cap going up. Anyone that thinks the Jets can find a cheap replacement for Adam Lowry is probably underestimating his value. 5 years for me would be the same as Wheeler, in a similar situation. Thing is Adam Lowry might still be a good PKer for 4 of those years. If the legs stay healthy. And when they start to go he'd still be a guy who could stand in front of the net on the PP and tip a few in. And win some board battles.

I'm okay with 5 years even though I think it might be a year to much and I'm closer to 4m than 5m. Anyways I think he is a career Jet and I think he has earned whatever the Jets give him and if it's more than I have stated so be it.

I’m thinking that losing his dad has probably made a difference in his headspace.

Of course it did; how could it not? You're young and on the cutting edge of your own world that goes completely upside-down and right-side-up day in and day out, and you lose the (stereotypically at least) single strongest person you could lean on for guidance?

I don't excuse the stupid shit that comes out of his mouth, but boy oh boy does he still need help. And I don't mean with his shot, that much at least seems to be pretty good still.

I honestly don't know. Could very well be, yes. Jets offer 9 and they end up agreeing on 10? I don't see them paying more than 10 though. Just because of the internal balance in regards to Helle and Scheifele.
I mean Schief has never reached a 100 points so if Connor reaches over a 100 I don't see why he'd care what Schief got.

I don't think it can work that way. You can compare contracts signed at the same time. But each season has a different set of criteria. The expectation of the cap rising faster than earlier predicted changes the landscape. But even if it only went up by the preset amount it is still higher than the year before. You also need to look at comparables signed in the same time period, not some other player signed a year or more earlier.

Players' egos enter into it but if the scale rises and you limit your team to paying no more than player X you are just going to watch all of your players leave.

Good thing the Rangers locked up Igor for many years .615 SV % screams elite, Rangers in last place in the Metro

Besides inconsistent goaltending - WTF is going on with NYR? Last year's Presidents Cup winner in last place in their division, tied for 3rd from the bottom in the conference, tied for 7th from the bottom in the league, tied with Montreal FCS. And with the 2nd worst record in the league in the last 10.

Is it as simple as the coach has lost the room? That doesn't seem likely. He coached them to that PC last year and won 2 rds in the PO. He's in his 23rd year as a HC. But there is a lot of talent in that room.

If anyone has the answer contact James L Dolan c/o Madison Square Garden. He will pay you a boatload of money for the secret.

Maybe they want Hagens, hoping for the heaviest lottery ball again. Lafreniere wasn't enough. Might be the only way to improve at center.
