Very true. CUP.

But are they high priced guys though? Other players come in with huge expectations and I don't feel either of those guys came in with that. In fact, I think they both out performed.

Prior to the ROR trade, Bozak was slotting in at 2C on most projected lineups. If I recall correctly. Expectations certainly could have gone differently if he was relied on in the top six more than what he was here.

Krug, and Stastny were the other two big UFA signing and neither was a hit imho.

Backes, Lucic, there is a very large list IMO, of big UFA's that don't quite live up to expectations.

We traded for ROR less than 9 hours after signing Bozak. And he was slotting in at 2C out of the reality of our (short-lived) roster, not because his reputation around the league was that he was a stud 1C/2C tweener.

Here is the blurb about hit from the Hockey News' 2018 free agency preview (where he ranked as the 9th best UFA):

A Selke Trophy will never perch atop his mantle, but he brings decent offensive skill as a third-liner on a good team or a placeholding second-liner on a rebuilding team. Likely expendable in Toronto, so he could wind up in the latter scenario. Either way, he’s at worst the fourth-best offensive center on the market, so he’ll have plenty of offers.

I'd say that his eventual spot in our opening night lineup was right in line with expectations and that he was a tier (or two) below the top free agents.

Agreed he was prefect here as a 3C. I was just stating had been relied on as 2C I doubt he would be remembered as fondly. Forgot how quickly ROR was traded after the signing.

Just like Ryan O'Reilly.

Tage is nothing like ROR. ROR always busted his ass defensively and had a good work ethic. The Sabres would have been better off keeping him but can't blame him for wanting out. Eichel also seemed to have a bad attitude for awhile too, but most guys probably get wiser and mellow out as they get older.

Wow the Kings are taking the Rangers to the woodshed. I would keep calling Buffalo and NYR if I were Army to see if we could find a steal - the wheels have completely fallen off on those two teams.

Blues get the Rags tomorrow, likely without the injured K’Andre Miller. Good time to get both Rangers matchups on the schedule - when they’re in a deep funk and free falling in the standings.
