TSN/SN are geared to everything Leafs and it was ramped up with Mathews getting there, every year they dream of the Leafs winning the SC and what a windfall it would be for viewership and revenue. Talking heads know that bashing the Leafs could be a career killer so they become mouth piece of the team. All free agents are coming to Toronto, this rookie is having a great week so he should win the Calder, that goalie won 3 games so the Vezina should be his. The only time they can get away with bad mouthing the Leafs is when they go out in the first round and all Leaf fans are slagging the team, but that's only aloud for a couple of weeks.

I can't even watch another one of the TSN takes - it's beyond ridiculous.
These guys are standing in front of a microphone and talking about a code that requires a player to crosscheck a guy in the face if they hurt your feelings.
And now they layer on the fact that the Leafs had to do something because they are sooo soft and they have let the league know that they can't continue to allow the embarrassment.
It boils down to their view that a cross check to the face in this situation was a major (and much needed) turnaround for the Leafs and their fragile egos - and the room will see a massive benefit from all of this regardless of the games he will miss.
Now the players are involved after hearing their coach step out and state that cross checks to the face are OK when we're dealing with a matter as serious as "the code" and the impact of such an embarrassment may have on their room - WTF?
This is beyond a joke - Certain members of the media should be ashamed - I hope they throw the book at him.
There was no media giving excuses for Scheifele and his hit, Scheifele's hit wasn't this bad but everyone said throw the book at him. Scheifele got 4 playoff games and to me that's at least double regular season games so roughly 8 game suspension. No way Rielly gets 8 games.

what pisses me off the most is how they act like victims when people call them out for all their leaf coverage/homerism

Freidman had an interesting breakdown on his 32 thoughts podcast on how often in person hearings result in less than 6 game suspensions and I think it has only been twice. The one time Spezza got 6 but it was reduced to 4 and I think the other time was with Kulikov who got 4 games for a hit on Seguin. I think the rest of the time it has been 6 games. Feel free to FAQ check.

My guess is 4 on the low side 6 on the high side. Friedman was thinking 2 to 4 games and was surprised it might be 6 games based on the fact the stick did not make contact with the neck first (Perron) and the stick "rode up" to the neck area all be it violently. To be clear he said it was suspension worthy he just couldn't remember a non direct (ride up) cross check that carried a 6 game rip.
If he gets a 4 game suspension, I'd have trouble reconciling that with Dillon's 3. One was unintentional contact while trying to make a hockey play. The other was intentional malicious intent to injure after the play was dead.

But 3 or less and I would have really blown my top, so at least I'm happy there's a hearing.

I thought the hearing was today Feb12 since the Leafs play tomorrow?
Or did I missed the announcement where its postponed until July?
Seriously I'm hoping he gets zero games so that Parros finally gets FIRED!

so Zadorov hits a guy saturday and has already started his suspension...but Rielly hits guy the same night and wont have a hearing until what ? tommorow at the earliest ...is it hard to get a flight from Toronto to New York all of a sudden

Vancouver was playing back to back, decision had to be made sooner.

Why would you want to help Toronto by taking Reaves out of the lineup for any length of time?

LIke Kane said, never mind a suspension, if they want to punish him, make him play 12 minutes a game.
Omg that's a brilliant idea.

If a plug like Reaves commits a suspension like act, make the team play him more than any other player at his position for a number of games.

Just hurry up and suspend the motherf***er so my Reddit feed isn’t bogged down with morons arguing about it constantly.

It’s a win-win for me. Either Rielly is punished accordingly and I can mine for salt, or he’s let off lightly and the whole “the league hates the Leafs” conspiracy theory falls to pieces.

But just pick one already.

I'm sorry, wasn't that shitbag Reaves challenging Ehlers to a fight last week? What code is that? The Leafs just continue to heap ignominy upon themselves...but I guess what's one more in the long list of shame for that franchise over the last half-century?

Right? Like that's the thing about these "code" people, it's that they aren't even consistent with their OWN rules. Which is probably why they're unwritten rules, so you can just keep making shit up as you go along.

5 minutes after Chef hit Evans, the entire league, the dops, the commish, everyone, was ready to throw Chef out the the NHL.

Rielly crosschecks a guy in the head 5 seconds after he scores, and the NHL is taking 3 days to decide what to do? Can't imagine the negotiations RE: begging that Toronto is doing with the NHL to get him off.

Remember that one of the big aggravating factors in Chef's case was that the empty net goal had put the game out of reach. Of course, there's still the issue of punishing Chef for being unable to break the laws of physics, or that the contact occurred so close to the puck crossing the line that the red light wasn't even on yet, but in the extremely unlikely case that Parros is consistent on that matter, this should be an easy 8 games.

The really frustrating thing about the O'Reilly hit for me is that it happen just before a 3 day break for the Jets so now it's also taken over this forum.

For me it's interesting just to see what Rielly gets just to compare to Scheifele and also all the salt we are going to hear from Leaf coaching , players and fans.:naughty:

Personally I find the Leafs and their fan base entertaining in this matter...

Pathetic... myopic... entitled... arrogant... childish comments...

All about what would be a criminial assault charge on the street...

It lowers them below how the rest of the hockey world had thought previously...

The Marianna's trench is a mere Charleswood ditch compared to the Toronto Maple Leafs and their fan base...

SN and TSN's subservient boot licking places them even lower... and is just a bonus in their pathetic pandering arena....

I need more popcorn...

Or how about we take the "conspiracy theory" route and suggest that at a time when the NHL is potentially looking at its demise they see a potential cash cow in the Habs making the final.
