Speaking of ex-Sens defencemen, Brannstrom was a healthy scratch last night in Vancouver. There is a narrative here that he is somehow tearing it up there, but that's not 100% accurate. They like him for depth but Branny has the same issue in Vancouver that he had here - he doesn't drive enough offense to play in the top four, and doesn't have enough sandpaper to be in the bottom pairing...
He's been a scratch the last few games, and is almost always last in icetime of a rag tag group.

Tocchet came out and outright said that he isn't an everyday NHLer for them, nor are the 2 other guys they have playing who are AHL journeymen in Juulson and Friedman. They are scratching 2 D, while having 2 AHL guys in the lineup.

He is likely safe until Feb, but he will be on waivers again once Hronek is back, and even then there's a distinct possibility they don't want to keep 8 D up and there's a chance he's the man out, as Tocchet isn't a big fan.

Yup, looks like he's been bumped down. Interesting considering they have some depth issues after losing a top 4 guy in Hronek long term. Might have been something in the Tampa loss that Tocchet didn't like, I missed that one. He'll be out of their top 6 by playoff time basically guaranteed imo.

Lots of oilers fans very very happy with Emberson. Who had good underlying stats in San jose.

But. Look. I heard. From people that watched ALOT of San Jose. That he was no good because he was just traded. So why would San Jose trade a good player for Ceci. Emberson must be just a throw in who is bad. And Edmonton had to take him to clear the salary of Ceci.

Hmm. Very very odd.

I agree. Was a bit of an odd scenario making out as well as they did.

I still say they messed up not matching Hollaway though. He's a player and showed that on their run and should have been kept even if some gymnastics were required.

Justin Schultz retires. Two time cup champ and what I hoped would be a potential option for our 6th/7th defencemen on league minimum.

The 2 kids that the Blues got have done pretty well.
That was a screwup by the Oilers.
It seems so. I was really high on Holloway in general. He was money last year. I though he easily had top 6 potential and was shocked they let him walk over that relatively small amount. One thing is for sure, Podkolzin is not a worthy replacement and arguably Holloway is already better than guys like Skinner and Arvidsson.

Broberg I understood a little more because of the whole LD/RD dilemma they faced, but still needed to find a way to keep him imo.

Go Leafs tonight!

Apparently Fowler to St.Louis?

Freidman is hearing they're working on it

Detroit paid the Sharks a 2nd to take Walman and got nothing in return...

Edmonton traded a 3rd and Ceci for Emberson.

There's an argument that Walman deserves Norris voting this year, while Ceci has been replacement level in San Jose...

Yzerplan ladies and gentlemen...

I don’t think he’s a fraud. They have like 4 players from their rebuild on the roster currently. Unless you get lucky with a franchise changing player like McDavid or Matthews, this is what happens when you have to build an entire core from scratch. It takes forever.

It's not even that, it's the roster management around the guys he's drafted. Just balls. Terrible UFA signings, terrible trades. Garbonzo. ***

*** Now, please keep in mind how much I hate the Wings with every fiber of my soul, so perhaps I'm leaning towards blaming the great mind of Stevie Y for the failures more than perhaps he should be.

Outside of their top 10 picks, they've drafted literally no one who has contributed or barely even played any games for them.

Think he is just grabbing whoever on short-term deals until more of their prospects are ready. Not saying it’ll work, but I understand the strategy. He’s not burning future cap space or sending away draft picks generally so he’ll be in a position to upgrade the team when the time comes.

There might be pitfalls to that, especially if some of the prospects don’t pan out, but we know that being aggressive doesn’t always work either.

Generally. Sending a 2nd round pick with a guy who is absolutely killing it this year for San Jose is a horrific look though.

EDIT: Then there's some horrific stats attached to Copp and Compher who make a combined over 10 million dollars. That's not place holding, that's....something else.

I remember when he had his debut and people were talking perennial Norris contender.

He lit it up with the young Oilers core for a while, but that whole roster just never put it together.

I also remember being on a flight with a Wild scout and he said Schultz was the 2nd coming of Coffee.

Pro scouting...I don't know him well and can't say if his play will last, but those are are the wins that can have a big impact.

Hopefully we can ma age the cap/picks aspect of pro hockey much better and take advantage when opportunities arise.

Rangers are imploding. They should maybe leak some trades they want to make, trade their captain and fire their coach.
I can't see Laviolette lasting much longer rightly or wrongly
