He's been a scratch the last few games, and is almost always last in icetime of a rag tag group.Speaking of ex-Sens defencemen, Brannstrom was a healthy scratch last night in Vancouver. There is a narrative here that he is somehow tearing it up there, but that's not 100% accurate. They like him for depth but Branny has the same issue in Vancouver that he had here - he doesn't drive enough offense to play in the top four, and doesn't have enough sandpaper to be in the bottom pairing...
Tocchet came out and outright said that he isn't an everyday NHLer for them, nor are the 2 other guys they have playing who are AHL journeymen in Juulson and Friedman. They are scratching 2 D, while having 2 AHL guys in the lineup.
He is likely safe until Feb, but he will be on waivers again once Hronek is back, and even then there's a distinct possibility they don't want to keep 8 D up and there's a chance he's the man out, as Tocchet isn't a big fan.
