I get the fact that this market basically loathes the Oilers and their fans.....probably going back to the Gretzky-Messier--Coffey years in the 80's.

But I can't help thinking that while Canuck fans are wringing their hands about wasting the best years of Quinn Hughes career in Vancouver without success--up in Edmonton they could be blowing the best years of McDavid and Draisaitl.

I'm not a big Oilers fan either. But I just think that 'generational talents' like McDavid, Crosby, Orr, Lemieux, and even Draisaitl, deserve to have their names etched on the Stanley Cup.

As far as I'm concerned, McDavid can join Dionne on the list of best players to not win a Cup. (Nothing against Dionne at all.)

There is zero momentum to this finals schedule. Actively hostile towards sports fans.
If this goes 7, that is June 20. NHL draft is 27th for rd 1. Free agency is officially July 1, with legal tampering days earlier. Plus arbitration deadlines to file in June. Same with buyouts.

The next 11 days will be nuts if it goes 7.

I watched the last game at a bar with some friends and cheered loud when Florida scored... it was great.
I was coming around to the idea of EDM breaking the curse, then I watched the Oilers D and team D do their best Gudbranson impression on saturday. I just laugh at anyone who says goaltending is their problem

Deserve? Deserve's got nothing to do with it. You got to earn it.

The Oilers have had how many years to fix their goaltending? They always went cheap, be it Cam Talbot, Mike Smith, Mikko Koskinen and now Skinner.

Lots of options last summer too.
Mike Smith was actually pretty good though. If they had him now there’s a good chance they would’ve won at least 1.

Teams should just start making trades now, scf or not. It's the NHL fault for dragging this out.

Since he's come up again, I really only listened to the second half but it was very enlightening about ol Johnny Weisbrod and his time in the NHL. And Benning as well.

Whoever decided we needed so many two day breaks between games in the SCF should be fired. Yeesh. I just want this shit to end already.

I think the longer breaks benefit the Oilers, myself. But we'll see how tomorrow night goes.
Agree Mr C. Curious f the venues were being used or what.... but dragging this out is a bit much. Every second day is the normal deal. In 1994 the old filthy Rangers got that extra day and Terry Gregson got a fistful of cash that helped Messier win the cup. Gelinas and Nathan both hit iron but somehow the younger, better team got only 2 pp's but the McTavish Booze Crew got 5 PP. Gregson is a scumbag.

Sorry for the rant. That was Vancouver's cup

The nhl ask teams to wait, but at some point in time, these teams need to get moving. Other deals/transactions may depend on moves getting done.

No other events. You can do a quick search of Rogers Place and Amerant Bank Arena for their events. There is nothing happening in June.

Panthers for June:

Oilers for June:

1 concert for the 10th. But, they were in FLA at that time. Other events are held at the Fan Park, not inside Rogers Place.

One or two players doesnt guarantee shit.

Edmonton cant win stanley with TWO Quinn Hughes'.

This offseason is about to set back this franchise for a decade. The cost of appeasing Quinn for his inevitable swan song anyways, will be crippling.

Then it logically makes more sense to move Quinn now. Open yourself up to the entire NHL market. Teams will deal for him hoping they can do well with him and thus convince him to stay with them long term. Not like NJ is a lock for deep PO runs.

Instead we let him handpick the coach and next offseason we will let him handpick his new team.

Neither of these things is true.

he had no say in who the canucks choice to coach.

Next year he will also have no trade protection and the Canucks will be free to trade him anywhere if they wish.

They %100 insta hired Adam Foote for two reasons.

One he's cheap and could take the 3 yr term others wouldnt.

Two, he's the Huggy whisperer.

What weight (50/50) each has is up for debate but I think Foote was retained specifically for Hughes, and secondly because he's cheap. (Manny woulda been too)

He will have no trade protection like Matthew Tkachuk was a pending RFA. Do you think teams were making that deal without an extension in place? Nope.

By the end I believe he gave a 4-5 team list, including Florida and St Louis amongst 2-3 others. Thats basically a NMC.

Thats is not the reasons the Canucks hired Foote. I am sure they liked that he was good with the players including Hughes. for the record, I would not have hired foote... but I understand the reasons.

Thats how you lose control of the situation... or you could just not give teams the right to speak to teams to Hughes. Then if it happens to be a team he wants to go to... you let them talk extension to maximise the trade, and if it is not a team he wants to go to... well too bad they had the best bid.

But, Quinn would basically be like M. Tkachuck and Trouba. If he doesn't extend with the team that trades for him, that drops his value down. There is a reason both guys ended up clubs that they wanted to go to.
You can trade for him and keep him for the year, but if he doesn't want to sign with you, you're getting a 1 year player.

How much better is a return from a team he wants to go vs one that he won't sign with? Who knows....

Its Maximising the value to keep as many teams in the bidding war for as long as possible. The hope yes is that the team he is traded to is the one he wants and that you can then let them talk. but if you shrink the list too early teams will know they can out wait you.
