STL would have a medical report on Krug's possibly return. Might be an indication that he won't return again.

I believe Leddy/Faulk and even Krug move from full NTC to MNTC next season.
Blues fans are saying Leddy might be out long term/the rest of the season, so Fowler is supposed to replace him for the time being.

I was thinking towards next season as Fowler is under contract for 25/26 as well so if Krug returned, that would have left them with Leddy, Broberg, Krug, Fowler as LHD, with Paryako, Faulk and Kessel on the right. The top 6 make have 3 guys at $4 mill cap charges while the other 3 at over $6 mill.

Ana gave Fowler away, even retaining 38% as his STL cap hit is down to $4 mill. Things must be bad in Ana for their longest tenured Skater to get moved who had like a 3/4 team trade list to be dealt with under 10 games before hitting 1000 NHL games played with them.

Is Fowler suppose to be good/decent?

I never watched him play, but looking at the numbers they are...unflattering to say the least. Maybe because I'm always biased against defensemen who puts up some points but looks like a liability on the blue line, since defensemen's primary job is, you know, defense?

In his prime, he was #2 LHD behind Lindholm who did all of the heavy lifting defensively. He was the puck mover. As the main veteran these past 2.5 years he's been tasked with Lindholm's old job and he clearly can't handle it. Like Broberg, he has help in STL. And Montgomery is a better HC than Cronin is.

I mean, in 2022 when Ana sent Lindholm, Manson and Rackell out, Fowler could have asked PV to send him out as well in the off-season or something. But, he stayed there another 2.5 years untiil now. So, something changed that finally got Fowler out of Ana at 38% retention. And he still landed with a non PO team.

interesting trade. i can only assume not many teams were interested in fowler. his numbers are ambiguous given his team situation and hopeless role of playing shutdown for a terrible team. he can certainly produce offence but i guess a number of teams wonder how much defence he has left.

Thanks for the clarification.

Still feels like giving up assets for someone like Fowler especially around his age is a bit of a short-sighted move. Then again, I'm not exactly someone who should be trusted with any trades let alone running a team haha.

the trade was almost a carbon copy of the cost for Van to send Mik to ch (except the team taking on cap space gave up the higher draft pick). We got a 4th in exchange for a 2nd. The player STL sent is just to offset one of the 50 NHL contracts they were allowed to keep both teams even. He's been in the ECHL this season, so not really an NHL asset.

Not really, he's been bad defensively.

Ducks fans have been saying for a while now that he shouldn't be used as more than a #4 guy at this point, and that a change of scenery might slightly revitalize his career. Being relied on as the top d-man on a terrible team for a few years might have taken its toll on him mentally.

Yep. Surprising that he didn't ask out after PV took over in 2022 once the rest of that 2017 WCF blueline got moved. Had to know he was going to be tasked with the heavier minutes and that wasn't his strength. Plus, going to be a lot of losing coming up. Last place in 2023. 3rd worst in 2024. Currently on Pts % like 5th worst or something.

The Rangers are due for a coaching change, Lavvy is about to be canned.

Or Igor got paid and dipped.

Like MS said, Drury made a colossal mess when there was absolutely no mess to be made, at all.

This has got to be one of the most unnecessary and straight up DUMBEST stunts I've seen a GM pulled in quite some time, and we had Commando Dimbo as our GM!

Seriously, what the f*** was the guy thinking?

Always wondered about Chris Drury, had a great 4 years as a depth player in the Avs. Then has a cup of coffee in Calgary the gets shipped to Buffalo where he became a ‘playoff god’.

Then the first chance of free agency he leaves for the Rangers.

The stories about him as GM, not so much good.
