Watching the Rangers vs Panthers game made me realize how slow Matt Tkachuck is, he makes Boeser look like Bure in comparison lol. However he’s amazing along the boards and in traffic, has elite hands. Makes me think is skating speed overrated?

Checked out his draft prospect profile:

Tkachuk’s skating is an area of concern. His puck skills, tenacity in the offensive zone, and playmaking abilities are great, however, and led to a second place finish atop the OHL leaderboards with 77 assists. He is strong on his skates and along the boards, and is willing to go to the dirty areas of the ice and retrieve the puck for his linemates. His greatest offensive weapon is unquestionably his shot, as he has the ability to rip hard, accurate shots in the blink of an eye. He makes the opposition take notice on every shift, and his grittiness in the offensive zone is reminiscent of his father, former NHL power forward Keith Tkachuk.

Despite his vast array of skills and elite hockey sense, Tkachuk’s biggest area’s of weakness are among the concerns that are holding him back from potentially competing for a top three selection in this draft. His skating, while solid and showing good agility and balance, is still slower than most other top prospects and could keep him from becoming an elite scoring threat in the NHL.

While he’s one of the smartest players in the draft and has great hockey IQ, his commitment to his own zone could stand to improve to make Tkachuk a true two-way threat. While some blindly conclude Tkachuk’s numbers were a product of his high-flying linemates, his playoff performance showed he can truly impact a game in every way and remain a threat to score even when his linemates aren’t at the top of their games.

Juolevi’s was the opposite..

Juolevi looked great defensively in the OHL with strong positioning and being tough to beat one-on-one. He could stand to bulk up a bit, which would help him to be stronger on the puck and better at board battles when he moves to the next level and faces bigger and stronger opponents than the teenagers he goes up against in junior hockey.

Juolevi’s strong two-way game is based on his excellent skating ability. He has very good speed in both directions, and good acceleration. His pivots are fairly crisp and his edge work is solid. His straight line speed is elite. This allows him to quickly transition from offence-to-defence or vice-versa. This skating allows Juolevi to cover a ton of ice, and to be able to join the rush, or make pinches at the blueline and still get back defensively. Adding core strength would allow Juolevi to improve his balance and be stronger on the puck, as well as better at winning battles in the corners.

Olli Juolevi may need a year or two before he is NHL ready, but could be worth the wait. He projects as a two-way defenceman capable of playing big minutes against other team’s best players, killing penalties, moving the puck, and playing on the powerplay.

Oilers getting the calls already. Nice waived off icing and clear hit from behind on Steele.

Refs handing Edmonton the lead. Incredibly soft call. Suter must be livid.

If the Oilers win the Cup it’s going to sting. Losing by a goal in game 7 without Boeser and with Demko ready to start game 1 of the WCF.

Thinking positively, this team is a Cup contender, don’t need to change much just need a top 6 winger and let’s run it back!
Honestly the fact we took Edmonton to game 7 on a 3rd string goalie and Pettersson MIA bodes well for next season.

Canucks are cup contenders and noone will convince me otherwise.

Also credit to the Oilers they are a better team than I thought they were. Still hope they lose lol!
