I don't quite agree with you on the AHL thing, I think he's ready for backup duty. I believe his contract is up? So that figures into the whole thing.
The two major "holes" I see is his five hole when moving side to side (often on breakaways) and he has trouble looking around traffic. There were several times when the Oilers shot exactly opposite the side when he turned his head. The first one is easy to fix, but the second one is harder.
The issue is that as a backup you're not going to reach your ceiling. If Silovs is a long term future starter for the team, he needs more starts where he can build that starters stamina and mentality. That's not going to happen with Demko on the team.
Look at Schneider, he was already a Calder Cup starting goalie with 60 games before we made him the backup which he slowly stole from Lu.
Also at the end of the day Silovs had a.898 and a GSAA of only -0.22 in this "magic run" and that was because of his issues. After all those high danger saves he couldn't stop the low danger ones.
The stick discipline and overslide isn't that quick of a fix. It took Bob like 3-4 seasons for example.
