It was absolutely a bad trade, we got f*** all for trading him and he's actively contributing to a bitter rival on their 2nd straight run. He should have been shipped out of conference.
C'mon, he is not Rantanen. If Canucks were the Flames and the best offer was from Oilers. Canucks would do the trade.

A compendium of E.M.'s testimony, mostly paraphrased or described generally:

I get that every criminal defendant deserves a robust defence, but it's still hard not to feel like lawyers defending people credibly accused of rape, which generally amounts to repeatedly attacking and insulting their victims, are selling their souls and will never get them back.
Hard to argue with your sentiment there. I mean yes everyone geta a defence but the ones that go for theatrics, drama and exploit technicalities.. well im not sure where they end up but hopefully enternally get reamed by their own practices

Even with the justice deciding the case and not a jury—I am very worried that the defendants are going to get off with little to no punishment.

I have little doubt that what happened was as bad as one could imagine from what has been reported. However, I worry that the defense has established enough doubt in the events for the justice to say the burden of proof has not been met.

Unless one of the other players in the room rises to the moment to speak to what really happened in there I am afraid for the outcome.

Delete -- I shouldn't be talking about such an awful event in a hypothetical, disinterested internet-poster fashion

I do think Toronto finally gets it done tonight. Florida must be feeling the effects of back-to-back runs.

Carolina probably beats them in 4 or 5 though.

God damn, I feel terrible for Winnipeg fans.
Didn't catch the game, but saw the series winning goal. Did the Jet player deflect the dump/shoot in? Can't figure out how it just stayed in the corner.

but, great play by Seguin was it to get the puck down low and find Harley all alone. Fit that perfectly between Connor and Pionk.

Again, tough to see the jets fall as I was hoping for them, but they couldn't win a road game in R1. Can't imagine they would have gotten past Edm running on b2b 7 game series vs Edm that played 3 games fewer after 2 rounds.

I am not one to say "I told you so" but . . .

The handwringing over trading aways Podz is irritating to read,
At the time of the trade it was pretty apparent Alvin and co. were acting in good faith towards him and ensuring that he landed on his feet in a better-suited environment
Now that he is doing exactly that, people are acting like he would have done the same here when that clearly was never the case. He would never have had the same opportunity here that he is getting on the Oilers playing alongside McDrai. Im happy for the guy and glad hes finding success.

I do not care for any of the teams that are left, but I especially do not care for the Leafs and Oilers. So temporarily go Panthers and Stars.

Though it would be a little funny if the Canes beat the Oilers in the Finals again.
The Tkachuk/Marchand tandem is just too loathsome to pull for even against the Leafs for me….now if they go up against the Oilers ( Go Stars) and beat them I may buy their rookie cards lol …..

I need Florida to win tonight because then tomorrow on my podcast I can talk about how they lost, but the good news for them is that the Oilers will give up their spot in the next round so that the Leafs can try again.

Which handwringing would you prefer?

Maybe you've noticed that no matter what's discussed here, someone calls it out.

The Jets going down, while not surprising, was somehow made even worse for the fans, by the loss of Mark Scheifele's father on the eve of Game #6.

But stepping back and looking at things objectively--the Jets failed to win a single road-game in their two playoff series. And I, for one, never thought they were as good a team as their regular season record.

But it continues a long-standing tradition in the NHL of the President's Trophy winning team failing to win the Stanley Cup. Maybe it's just the rigors of an NHL regular season, with the front runners for the regular season title expending too much energy.

The same thing happened to the Rangers this season and their funk continued into the next season. The other 'inconvenient' debate is what happens to Hellebucyk in the playoffs?

For the second year in a row, the Vezina winner comes up short in the post-season. And until it changes, it's always going to be bone of contention.

Leafs can consider themselves extremely lucky not to have gotten scored on yet. I don't think they've had one second of possession in the offensive zone.
