Vegas simply isn't playing as a 5 man unit which was always their superpower not individual speed or talent. They are completely out of sync.

They lost Stephenson, Marchessault and Amadio and brought in less skilled or slow guys like Olofsson, Pearson and Saad. Hertl was a good addition last season but he's constantly injured. Karlsson, Smith, Stone and Pietrangelo have regressed due to age/injuries.

Vegas' identity was quick zone exits and seamless passing. They are much slower now and Edmonton's pace and relentless forecheck are causing massive issues.

Not sure Amadio is a big deal. Interestingly, all the other two played below usual levels this year. I think there is a chemistry factor there.

And for sure injuries are hurting them. They are missing their top goal scorer as well.

True, but I still saw them as underdogs. And I'm not convinced they would have seen out a 3-1 series lead.
Whenever you take a 2-0 series lead, then go on the road, the goal is to secure a split to get up 3-1 to give yourself 2 shots to close it out at home if needed (not that home ice in the NHL is as advantageous as in the NBA/NFL) when it comes to PO.

Right now we have 2 series at 3-1 (road team leading). Do I think LV or Wash have a shot to come back? I think both can and will force a game 6. Not sure Wash can win 3 straight vs Carolina.

Tor/Fla is tied at 2, while Win/Dal play game 4 tonight. Win can't go down 3-1 in the series. Need to win this one. Especially if Edm is in position to close their series out by game 6.

The Rick Tocchet approach to life.

Edmonton is peaking at a time where there is little competition in the West. No bueno. It's hard to watch the franchise that tanked their way to 945 first overall picks likely going to their 2nd straight SCF.

I'm becoming less resentful. They are a team full of assholes and egos but you have to give them credit for playing as a cohesive team that never quits.. They constantly overcome adversity and can now win games even when McDavid and Draisaitl are off their game.

Whereas our franchise completely unravelled and imploded for nonsensical reasons.

I'm jealous.

You can be jealous, have some respect for them for how they play, and still absolutely hate them though! Just compartmentalize! :thumbu:

I thought once that any team with Skinner and Pickard between the pipes, wasn't likely ever to win a Cup. But now I'm not nearly as sure. I guess with McDavid and Draisaitl in your lineup, anything is possible.

But then I was never that bullish about either Vegas or L.A. in the Pacific. Vegas is aging out fast and has nothing in the pipeline. And the Kings just fired Rob Blake as GM. He took a team with one of the greatest stockpiles of young players in the league, and totally squandered it.

The Kings are still heavily reliant on Kopitar and Doughty. And their careers re winding down. And 35-year old Darcy Kuemper between the pipes, is nothing more than a 'leap of faith' at this point.

Canucks ended the season as the fifth youngest team in the NHL. I actually like their prospects in the Pacific more than either Vegas or L.A. going forward.

Immediate cup favorite.

yup. anointing the oilers feels premature here.

they're rolling right now, but if they cool down, or even if they don't, either of winnipeg/dallas could take them. game 4's aside, stuart skinner is not a good goalie.

things only change if ekholm is back and fully healthy, but i suspect he's out for the next series too. how long can brett kulak hold things together?

LA caught at an in between. Kids had not produced but DD/Kopi still playing well. If you wait for the kids, going to waste what those 2 have left. Opted to roll the dice and send Faber, Ohgren pick, Vilardi, Iaofollo, Kupari out for PLD and Fiala.

Unless the reports are true that Faber would have tried to go NCAA UFA, it blew up in LA's face.
