Give credit to Florida after that 2-1 goal it was pretty much shutdown from there. That's how you got to play if you want to win. They were undefeated after leading after 2 periods. Leafs-Boston Game 7 we score the 1st goal and give up the tying one like 1 minute after. We have a ways to go before we can get to that level.

He had to break Gretzky's record for them to come this far
He had to score 8 points in 2 games

He had to put on his super hero cap on. They had to play LA and Canucks who lost Demko

A lot had to go right

Don't forget Vegas blowing that final game of the season vs Anaheim to stack one side of the bracket

But you have to take advantage of the matchups handed to you, and Oilers did just that. And elite special teams were the difference in most of the series

Look at it this way. Can you imagine just how f'n unbearable the Oilers group would be this summer had they won?
Every Canadian team's fanbase says the same about the Leafs and how unbearable Leafs fans would be if they ever won the cup.

I don’t think Skinner or Samsonov will be in the league in a few years. Canada literally has no goalies right now. Woller might be Canada’s best right now when he’s not injured.
he's from St Louis Missouri... quite a bit away from Canada

with us it’s more so we are very delusional about the Leafs and go very extreme with the praise and hype and the large number of us doesn’t help. With them it’s more so the inferiority complex they have about everyone else. that’s at least what I’ve seen.

This is every Canadian market.

Like, Sens fans have declared themselves off-season champions like 5 years running.

Sam Reinhart scoring a cup winning goal proves that the city of Buffalo is built on an ancient Indigenous burial ground

The State of Florida has 4 Stanley Cups in the past 20 years and 3 of them were won against Canadian teams.

Kinda crazy when you think about it but if I’m trying to find the NFL, NBA, MLB analogy this result doesn’t seem to be the kind of result the league might want to raise its profile.

Tampa Bay Rays, Miami Marlins, Orlando Magic, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Miami Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars. I feel like most of those teams winning would be bad for their leagues.
The Miami Heat in the Heatles/Lebron/Wade/Bosh era was the exception. Them winning 2 titles and making 4 straight nba finals in the early 2010s was good for the nba obviously

One of the luckiest teams in recent years to make the finals IMO

- Kings SUCKED
- Nucks were done with injuries. No Demko as you pointed out and then no Boser either in deciding game as he was injured too
- Dallas was spent IMO after going against VGK and Avs those were tough series unlike Oilers against Kings and Nucks

In the finals;
Oilers got a lot of puck luck to mount a comeback. Panthers hit 2 posts in Gm 5 if I remember on PP and then Oilers scored the goal (Hyman's first) from a pointshot of Bouchard when the puck was going really wide it hman and in net. Same thing happened with another shot (forget whether it was gm 4,5 or 6) where the puck hit Barkov when the shote was going wide and in the net. Then the oilers werent called for too many men (should have been a penalty) and then gm 6 that offside call was garbage IMO

Tonight i think panthers got the bounces/puck luck while oilers got ZERO puck luck.

Sure McJesus played out of his mind but in gm 6 and gm 7 he was very quiet. Couldn't do much with no time and space. also I think he just expended all his energy in gm 4 and gm 5 lol

I think in the last few years the vast majority of Leafs fans even the most positive and delusional ones have finally come to the realization that the Leafs aren't as good as we all hoped they would be. Outside of some of the ones you see on TV saying the usual 'the Leafs are going all the way', most fans seem to be grounded in reality that this team is good, just not good enough to win 16 games to get the cup.

The goalie pool is kinda weak in today's NHL, so I think Skinner will survive, especially with a good team in front of him

Plus, he may be Team Canada's starting goalie in the Olympics lmao
dude.. rest in fukking peace✌️ team Canada

It’s actually insane the more I think about it how we’ve gone from the days of Brodeur and Luongo to wondering whether the potential team Canada goalie is barely NHL caliber

I mean, Edmonton did score 2 minutes after Florida opened the scoring tonight.

Florida just got the benefit of a softie on Skinner and then Edmonton blew a couple of golden chances, including when Mcdavid put Bob on his ass but couldn't pull the trigger.

This year in particular I agree. hf leafs was pretty mellow. the Leafs have broken the will of even one of the most optimistically delusional fanbases. It’s hard for even the biggest optimists to have faith when the team can’t get by a 1-2 punch of Zacha and Coyle in the first round. All it’ll take is winning a series in 6 next year though and the hype will be underway.

I think Canada has some good up and coming talent on the way in net. Sucks Hart did what he did.
