The Dubas Cult???
I’m pretty sure he was a Burke trade lol. He was traded out the year we bottomed it to draft Matthews.
And of course as I look up the trade to acquire him both pick we gave the ducks for him turned into pretty good players. Marcus Pettersson and Kase.
That long ago?

Wasn't he in camp at some point?

I didn’t say Hagel took a hometown discount. As far as I’m concerned he’s being paid appropriately for a defensively responsible top 6 forward with offensive flair and a tenacious style of play. Granted, it’s a gamble on Tampa’s part but sometimes those work out. People may have thought Edmonton overpaid Hyman but I’m sure they’re more than happy with that deal now.

As for Hedman I’d be shocked if he gets a pay increase on his next deal. Same for Stamkos. Maybe they’ll surprise me but I’d bet those contracts would come in at a lower AAV in favour of term for two veterans, making them Lightning for life.
Yeah, sorry. I didn't mean to imply that you thought Hagel had taken a hometown discount. It was just my inserted observation.

I don't think the Hyman statement is fair yet. Of course they are happy with the ROI on the Hyman contract so far. It's the term that COULD be the issue. These players don't always age well.

As for Stamkos and Hedman, you might be right. Maybe they do want the Letang and Malkin deals and be Lightning for life. Although, maybe TB sees Pittsburgh and doesn't want to do that? These guys have their cups and they might want retirement contracts that go more than they can get in TB. It will be interesting to see.

Do you really think MLSE doesn't care about losing playoff revenue?

The Leafs could be so much more profitable if they didn't blow it.

I always laugh when people post stuff like this. "Large corporation doesn't care about results, they care about money....also they care about results because results boost money..." Such depth of reason.
Same here .
Just imagine the money they would make if we won a cup.
You can't count high enough.

They just don't know how to do it.

:biglaugh: I just love these stats memes.

Don't want to hurt myself with this stretch, but McDavid and Giannis (after his non-committal comments yesterday) both being UFAs in 2026 and both linked to the Toronto teams could make that a very exciting summer for Toronto sports teams fans.
lol imagine. I think Giannis said something similar to this as well so it's definitely gonna get people talking. I'll keep dreaming for it to happen but I doubt it does.

Peter Holland played way too carefully with the occasional brilliant flourish. A lot of flops just look too slow, not good agile enough at skating, not skilled enough, lacking in hockey sense. Some like Holland have all of the NHL level skills but just seem disinterested.

It would be a boon for the league too. First Canadian team with a Stanley Cup in over 30 years. Probably would trigger a second GTA NHL franchise as well.

Doubt MLSE will ever agree to that.
I've talked about how this could happen before. There's a unique situation in Toronto that could facilitate this happening in the future. Bell AND Rogers have ownership stakes in MLSE. One entity (Bell probably) gets the expansion franchise and pays for the new franchise fee in part with the money it receives for getting bought out of its stake in MLSE. It's the perfect expansion scenario in a bad economy.
