chill out he went off the rails end of this season but otherwise he had a great tenure in toronto. he was a gem. send him love.

Bunting wasn’t my favourite player but I liked his Scarborough blue collar come up story and bubbly positive attitude. It’s too bad these kinds of players can’t be rewarded in this cap system.

Two of Bernier’s most infamous moments in his career:

Wouldn't have thought his most games played would have been with the Leafs.

He was a polarizing goalie, because he didn't come across as that good, but had the potential to be very good. Especially being drafted 11th overall back in '06 and talked about as one of the next big goalies.

Yet, looking up his stats with the Leafs, they were a lot better than I remember them to be. A career .912 save percentage is quite impressive for him all things considered.

One of the unfortunate things for Bernier is the Leafs almost had to burn his career down to have that successful tank year in 2015-16.

Other than that he was a quality goalie who suffered from some lapses in concentration and confidence. Didn’t really have the environment to try and reach his peak potential in Toronto and the next thing you know he’s journeyman status, fighting injuries and stuck on some non competitive teams.

Liked him better than Reimer.

This is kind of sad to say, but I think Bernier's 13-14 season for the Leafs is the best goaltending season I've seen in my lifetime. He was truly spectacular before he went down with a groin injury late in that season. Got rushed back and I don't think he ever looked quite the same afterwards.

Officially under 50 days until opening night.

3 weeks away from the traverse city prospect tournaments with 3 games that week.

4 weeks away from opening of training camp and pre-season starting.

In the next few weeks, players will be arriving in Toronto to prepare for the season. Sports talk shows will begin recording episodes again. We've almost made it out of the offseason. Stay strong folks.

I dunno, I like that Hagel deal for everyone involved. It’s a bit risky but Tampa has locked up a 30 goal, 60 point heart and soul guy who kills penalties and is a pain in the ass to play against. The last third of that contract could hurt but locking up a solid complimentary winger through his prime alongside the core guys is good business.

Lightning now have Vasilevskiy, Kucherov, Point, Cirelli, Hagel, Sergachev, and Cernak signed at least until the end of 26-27 and none of them are making more than $10 million. The first two easily could be but because their main concern isn’t reaming their franchises over for every dollar possible they can sign solid role players who’ve built loyalty instead of having to watch them walk out the door every time they reach UFA.

I don't always pay the closest attention to the opposition's individual players so that might explain why I've never found Hagel very noticeable. I believe Tampa gave him a contract no other team would have been willing to give him without another 30-30 this upcoming season. BTW, take a look at this guy, left unsigned after two years of juniors, re-entered the draft didn't get drafted at 20, signed with an ELC, played another junior season. Not exactly the usual road to success. What you find with these late bloomers is they generally don't have the same longevity as the naturals. An 8 year deal is probably a mistake even if he's only going to be 25 in a few days.

If Bunting is a good deal at 4.5, then we have to admit Hagel at 6.5 is reasonable. I think both are overpaid for what they do, but we won't know until we're a few years into those deals.

For all the shit we give Mitch, I'd rather have one star like him at 10.9 than Hagel+Bunting at a combined 11m.

There's no hometown discount on this Hagel deal. Let's see what Hedman does on his next deal. Vasilevsky is a big number too.

I am not knocking the decisions of a multi SC winning franchise here. I am just saying that they will have cap trouble for a while longer...just like the Bruins...no discount from Pasta

I didn’t say Hagel took a hometown discount. As far as I’m concerned he’s being paid appropriately for a defensively responsible top 6 forward with offensive flair and a tenacious style of play. Granted, it’s a gamble on Tampa’s part but sometimes those work out. People may have thought Edmonton overpaid Hyman but I’m sure they’re more than happy with that deal now.

As for Hedman I’d be shocked if he gets a pay increase on his next deal. Same for Stamkos. Maybe they’ll surprise me but I’d bet those contracts would come in at a lower AAV in favour of term for two veterans, making them Lightning for life.

Don't remember who it was but there were a few really pumping his tires here.
Guessing it was the Dubas cult.
The Dubas Cult???
I’m pretty sure he was a Burke trade lol. He was traded out the year we bottomed it to draft Matthews.
And of course as I look up the trade to acquire him both pick we gave the ducks for him turned into pretty good players. Marcus Pettersson and Kase.
