There’s a segment of teams making moves to compete for a Stanley Cup now or in the near term.

There’s a segment of teams making moves to compete for the Stanley Cup down the line.

And then there’s a segment of teams doing neither. Nashville is stuck in the mid.

Nashville is at least drafting in high quantities. That's the positive in what they're doing. They're crossing their fingers for a Dallas moment where a bunch of young guys trickle their way in and the team becomes a near-equal mixture of young and experienced within the next 5 years.

Good luck to them. They’re going to need it.

NFL just lost the Sunday Ticket case with a huge award pending appeal.

This could have implications for other Professional Leagues with individual teams having more control/power over rights distributions/revenues. That would assist big market teams at the expense of smaller markets. An excerpt from WSJ article:

"Jones testified that while the Cowboys would make more money if they could sell their own TV rights, owing to their popularity, such a dynamic would ultimately hurt the league overall".

I think there's about zero percent chance that one will withstand appeal.

So there's a rumor that NYR and Red Wings are working on trading Trouba.

Smart management, moving out high paid, older players past their prime.

Canes could do that too but rather trade down and accumulate loads of lottery picks.

Canes don't have that, period. Their one player who's currently overpaid is an under-26 guy, which explains their patience with him.

It would help us to have Trouba no longer with a rival. Mock him as a player all you like, he took us out of our game more than once. Detroit is doing us a favor if they get him, and helping themselves at the same time if they get significant retention.

I am breathing a sigh of relief that he'll have less opportunities to injure our players.

Doesn't change the fact that he's a dirty ass POS who should be sitting out large chunks of seasons for the crap that he pulls. I don't care if it's effective at getting into other teams' heads or not, it shouldn't be part of the sport.
