But he'll always have those magical 35 games with McDavid to remember, and which got him enough cred to turn it into another 3 years in the league.

He was a decent bottom 6 winter for most of his tenure here. At a time when we were dying for production from the bottom of the line up, he was the one player down there who would give us an extra goal here n there

Part of his problem is he doesn't really do anything special.

Even his last year in Detroit at a first glance production looks pretty good for 20 games, but it's all PP. Not overly physical, doesn't play PK, and doesn't produce 5 on 5. Last time he produced at even strength was because he got gifted some time with great players.

One year away from the game the guy was pretty much just getting one last skate with the boys

That's why he's been a 4th liner though. He may not have scored much 5 on 5, he'd throw the odd hit, and not cause many headaches on the d-zone. Then when you needed someone to bump up to the PP or cover a few shifts in the top 6, he could do that. For what was predominantly a 1.5 - 2m players, that was ok.

Now he's just gotten older and is getting to the end of his career

As a Catholic I don't agree with multiple wives but imagine this tweet directed at Islam. Good thing Christians have a sense of humour because in today's landscape shitting on Christians has become the go to just like atheists wearing crosses while shooting O.F content lol.
WHY ARE YOU SO OBSESSED WITH OUR BOARD?

As a fan I don’t necessarily need to know, but I hope the conditions and stipulations that this latest cap shedding event was allowed, were communicated to every team in the league so that they are treated the same if, heaven forbid, a similar situation between player and team occurs.

I don’t always believe it happens in Gary’s NHL.

Clearly Vegas tried to terminate him unfairly and this is the compromise by the NHL.

Rich people don’t just give out millions of dollars for nothing

Just lovely when the Oilers are involved in a setting league precedent (extrapolating point totals) they lose a draft pick to the Flames. When Vegas is involved, they gain valuable cap space and avoid the uncertainty of dealing with a grievance by the player.

The incredible part of all of this is Vegas is getting a break for the sin of Lehner not meeting a reporting technicality. They still have to pay him. Still under contract. But he didn't report at the right time, so naturally because it is Vegas that is enough of a violation to accommodate the team.

I have time for accommodations if there is something truly out of a team's control that puts them in a difficult position. That's not what this is. Not a single thing would be different as far as the Golden Knights are concerned had he met the reporting technicality. Precedent is set, if I'm running an organization I'd simply be asking players destined to be LTIR'd for the full year to just not report. Who am I kidding though, the NHL doesn't know what precedent is.
