It's kinda sad, because on paper they should be at least decent. Sullivan has lost the plot loong ago, everyone knows it including Dubas, but the ownership doesn't allow him to fire the coach.
I’m not sure I agree with that. Maybe five years ago this team would look good on paper but it sure as hell don’t look good now. Apart from Crosby is there one guy on that team who’s killin’ it?

They’ll likely fire Sullivan this offseason but I don’t think that’ll cure what ails them.

Watched the tail end of the Yotes/Kraks game and man…Adam Larsson is having one hell of a bad finish to the year.

Tonight he flops to try and block a centering feed with less than two minutes to go in the game with the Kraken up 1-0, he of course fails to block it because he’s not EJ, and since he’s down on the ice he’s in no position to even try and stop Keller scoring the GTG.

OT then, and I’m pretty sure Hakstol waited as long as he possibly could before putting Larsson out there after he handed the game away last time in 3v3, but sure enough he goes out there and decides to chase the puck way too low in the attacking zone, leaving two-way stalwart Andre Burakovsky on defense. Sure enough they send it up to Dylan Guenther on a clean break and he buries it. Burky threw his hands up in frustration…I’m pretty sure I know who he was frustrated with.

Larsson is the modern day iteration of Aki Berg.

Firing Sullivan is not going to save that team. Firing him earlier this seasons might have enabled them to make the playoffs, but they are not a contender and never were. I'm just saying, they could be better than what they are now, and Sullivan is the main culprit of their current poor outlook.

I don't think Dubas is complaining because he got a 6 year deal and probably good money as well. But it's obvious the ownership is limiting his actions. People claim that's why he left Toronto lol, I guess the Pens just pay more.

I think Dubas (and ownership) knows they're going to have to suffer it out for a few seasons to let their big three ride off into the sunset together. Clearly that's what they want to do, and honestly it's hard to argue that they don't deserve to go out on their own terms after everything they've given the club. So Dubas just has to tread water for a bit and try to gather some assets, and then he can go have fun with building his own team from the ground up after he gets permission to really burn it all down.

The plan was to always have Crosby, Malkin and Letang retire as Penguins. The problem is, apparently ownership also wants to include Sullivan.

Like I said, Pens are not a contender anyway, but they could've been a playoff team I think. But they are simply underperforming greatly, and that's on the coach.

I mean, that team should still make the playoffs or be very close to it. Look at teams in the playoffs right now: Detroit and Philadelphia.

Although you can argue New Jersey really blew it. They should have made the playoffs easily.

Next season Pitts will have even tougher time making it, they are one year older while other teams are on the rise, Ottawa, Buffalo and New Jersey. I can't see them making it.. this year they could have made it to playoffs.

I'm guessing the difference is that Dubas was never going to get that autonomy in Toronto. But was given full autonomy to rebuild the Pens however he wants in the post Crosby era.

Just saying ...

Weird NY trip for Winnipeg. Beat the Rangers, then lose to Devils and the Islanders

I’m still not sure if finishing 1st in central is such a good thing. Preds or Vegas(if healthy) could be tougher match ups than Jets or Stars.
If you want to win it all, you need to go through some tough teams regardless. I'd rather have the home advantage.

True, but ideally you’d want to have the easiest match up in the 1st round which gets you going and you roll through the playoffs like it was in 22 for the Avs. This year is different though, every team is gonna be tough. This years Preds aren’t gonna be the same as the 22 Preds who the Avs swept, or the Oilers. Much tougher this time around

Preds could be only 5 points back of Jets with a win tonight. There's a chance the Jets fall to WC1 and have to play Colorado/Dallas/Vancouver.

Vegas is only 2 points back of LA, so it could be just as easily the Jets and Kings as the two WC teams.
