Like I said I don’t think he’s handling the situation well and doing this right after naming him captain is pretty shitty. But Couts does not give the team a chance to win right now so I get why he’s sitting him for that reason.
The thing I find really strange is that he made him captain while he was in the midst of this insanely shitty funk. He's been quite awful since the calendar turned from what I've been reading.

I feel like it might just be him getting tired. He's basically missed the better part of 2 seasons.

The scratch might have been warranted if for no other reason than giving him a rest but man...this could've been communicated better.

People who defend Tortorella remind me of Elon Musk fans on twitter.
The way he treats the media is far worse than how he treats the players in my book. I’m surprised that no one punched him in the face yet. Little shit.

I don't defend him so much as I hope he stays in the league. I have no problem with his theatrics so long as they ain't affecting the Avalanche.

Him and the Flyers are a match made in heaven really. A drama queen and the single most drama-spewing franchise in NHL history. The marriage was as inevitable as a Real Housewives botox session.

Who cares how he treats the media? You think MacK is a little shit for not answering Daters question?
Literally a part of a head coach job in the NHL is to answer the media. It's in their contract. It's not optional and it doesn't matter if he likes it or not.

Anyone being this shitty at an important part of his job should lose that job, period. It's true for me, it's true for you and it should be true for him as well.

Now what he does to the players I don't give a shit. That's strategy and how he thinks he's going to win and that's fair.

IMO People are just hypersensitive on Torts... the media loves to battle with him because his controversy gets clicks. Torts loves to battle with the media because it distracts focus away from other things (and he clearly likes attention too). In this case, how poorly Philly was playing prior. Now there is a new distraction to talk about. Even to the point where nobody is talking about how they beat Toronto without Cooter... it is just about Torts being an ass.

When it comes down to it... Torts is simply a fantastic coach that the media and fans love to hate. Do people remember the Torts being out of touch articles in his first Flyers training camp? On how he wasn't implementing a system and culture was most important? The heat on that was heavy. The media had a field day running him through the mud. When it turns out, he did have a system and he also was setting a culture. He was also very hard on Sanheim all season... much more difficult than he was on any other single player. This wasn't because he hated Sanheim... but that Sanheim had more in him. This year, he's playing the best hockey he ever has and at a low end #1/high end #2 level. In both cases he caught heat, and he's more than willing to take notes for the future.

When this shit happens though... people very quickly forget how quickly he went to bat for Kevin Hayes and player where both parties admitted it wasn't working. Yet he went out of his way to protect him.

Let's be honest, the guys Torts really gets pissy with in the press mostly deserve it. Larry Brooks is pretty horrible and Ant SanFilippo is a spineless piece of shit who name-dropped Kevin Hayes with NO evidence whatsoever, which led to Hayes receiving harrassment from Flyers fans. And even after Torts called him out, he refused to apologize. F**k both those guys. He may get cranky with reporters in general but who cares...I bet reporters actually prefer that to the same ol' generic answers most players and coaches spout out daily.

I'll say I don't care much for Torts not talking to the media after scratching his captain, while his captain still faced the music. But...that's the extent of my complaints about him. I feel the schtick gets tiresome at times but, honestly, he's still a fiery, mostly fun personality in a sport that's bereft of them.

And whether you agree or not, "no comment" is a valid answer to a question. He doesn't need to elaborate the situation with Couturier any more than that.

He's doing a good job making himself and Sean the big distraction for the team that had been very inconsistent. The first scratch seemed to work, as they won against the Leafs.

Kucherov about to get 6 points tonight. Race is over. Sorry MacK, hopefully you repeat with the Lady Byng.
Which race? The Art Ross? Kuchy can have it. Nate will just have to console himself with another Stanley Cup to go along with the Smythe, Lindsay, Messier and as you said..the Byng. The difference is, this year Nate actually deserves the Byng. He resisted every instinct in his being that was telling him to commit pre-meditated murder in the locker room after each of the first 63 games.
