Didn't realize the Wild have lost 12 of their last 15 games. Wonder if something happens there.

That team as presently constructed needs three things to happen:

1) Kaprizov to play at an MVP level
2) Supporting cast to play WAY above their exepected capabilities (Hartman, Zuccarello, Johansson, Gaudreau, etc)
3) Top-10 goaltending

They aren't getting any of that right now.

The dead cap hits of Parise and Suter caught up to them this season it seems. Supporting cast that far exceeded expectations last season has fallen back to earth.
The fact they made it to the playoffs the last 2 seasons is insane.

I mentioned it before, but it's typical Mild fashion they found a superstar, amazing value supporting cast, yet did it when they have a $15 mil handicap. They would've been one of the top contenders the past 2 years if they had that extra $15 mil in cap space.

No doubt, but it was impossible. If they didn't have the dead cap space they would have the corpses of Parise and Suter still occupying roster spots and leadership roles in the locker room.

Every team will run hot and cold. The best teams will limit the cold streaks.

Vegas, Colorado, Dallas, NYR, Carolina, Toronto, Los Angeles, and (shockingly) Boston should be the top teams this season.

I expect teams like Vancouver, Winnipeg, and Washington to fall back down to earth.

There's no chance RNH waives his NMC unless McDavid and Draisaitl are gone.

He didn't take a significant discount to get a complete NMC for funsies.
I think the reason he got his NMC is because he knew if the Oilers ever needed to shake things up, he is #1 on the trade block for them. He gave up significant money to be able to control where he ends up should he be asked to waive.

I was pretty firmly on the "Vancouver has built up enough of a cushion they can coast to a playoff spot" but when Bruce Boudreau brought up they've really only beat teams below 0.500 and their PDO magic is starting to wear off a bit at least...that crash to earth might be harder than I thought.

Have I ever said they are not a top team?

They will still be fodder for whichever team they play in the playoffs until they find a real goaltender idgaf what Cam Talbot's numbers are showing as of today.
Not gonna dig into your post history but you've mocked everyone that said before the season that the Kings were a threat.

The truth is that team never went through a proper rebuilt.

Fact: Kaprizov is going to walk at the end of that short contract and, thanks to their dead cap space, they have zero chance to win until he becomes UFA. That's just another Panarin in Columbus situation. They have to make the heartbreaking but smart decision, something that Jarmo couldn't do and the Jackets are still paying the price today.

The right thing to do would be to trade Kaprizov for futures right now at absolute maximum value and draft in the top 3 next summer. That'd kick start their rebuild in no time and give them a chance to win a championship in the next decade.

This should help

I'm glad the Wild are getting f***ed by the Parise + Suter buyouts.

Did they really think there would be no consequences for putting us all through that stupid NBA-style rigamaroll when we were all trying to figure out where they would sign?

This is what you get for mildly annoying us all 11 summers ago.
