Only way I'd want kessel in toronto is on a league min and then healthy scratch him one short of the iron man record or if they let him get the record then scratch him at 999. .

His record will end as a healthy scratch not an injury...... ffs he scored 8 goals last year

… Babcock is that you?

He also had 44 assists.

He's still a legit top 9 forward and while I agree he's not a great fit for the Leafs, would be a nice boost to a teams 2nd pp unit.

Phil's still got some gas in the tank left

how did he hurt you?

Honestly hope Phil blows the record away and then coasts into the sunset with his two cups, his root beer, and his hot dogs.

Babcock plans to retire from coaching after resigning from Saskatchewan

Former bench boss Mike Babcock hasn't officially closed the curtains on his head coaching career, but he doesn't intend to jump back into the NHL fray if a team comes knocking.

"No, that's sure not the plan," he said during an appearance Friday on 650 CKOM in Saskatchewan. "My wife and I have discussed this a ton, obviously. ... We always said we were going to retire at 60, and I'm 59. Basically, that's what it is."

"If things change, I guess they change, but surely that's not our plan. Believe me, we've talked to lots of people about opportunities and enjoyed those conversations. In the end, we feel this is best for us and best for our family, so that's what we're doing."

Babcock resigned Thursday after one season as the head coach of the University of Saskatchewan's men's hockey team. He coached the Huskies to a 13-7-0 regular-season record, including a seven-game win streak to open the campaign. However, Saskatchewan fell to the Calgary Dinos in a best-of-three quarterfinal.

The Saskatchewan native said Friday that he relished the opportunity to coach so close to home.

"Since I got kicked off the treadmill in Toronto, (my wife and I) have really enjoyed life," he said. "It was a spectacular experience to come back to Saskatoon, obviously to be around my family. ... In saying that, for us, it's time to move on."

Babcock's NHL head coaching career spanned parts of 17 seasons. He amassed an all-time record of 700-418-19-164 while spending time at the helm with the then-Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, Detroit Red Wings, and Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Maple Leafs fired Babcock early into the 2019-20 season following a six-game winless streak. Babcock missed the playoffs only twice in his NHL career and captured the Stanley Cup with the Red Wings in 2008.

Yeah, I don't think it's settled yet.

I don't know if these kids realize that these schools would sell out the stadium if it was you and me playing QB

They're not the brand here. Basically going to wreck their own chance at the nil money with additional greed

Apparently he was basically there as a place holder to teach the next guy the ropes basically.

Nice little retirement package he got from the Leafs

You're aware Babcock was hired 3 years before Dubas became GM right? I get people frustrated with the lack of playpff success but you need to be at least somewhat informed with your critiques.
...... you didn't read the post right before yours? You know where someone else said the exact same thing you said and I responded "you are correct"? 2 hrs before your post?

I get the eagerness to be right.... but at least read the post right above yours before criticism.

Not really. The conference commissioner talked about a future system in which the players could get paid out of TV revenues.

No I was/am too small. Had great hands but would have been hospitalized after the first scrum!

Obviously, you or I would need to be amongst the best in the USofA for that to happen.
So I have to disagree with your assertion that anyone would be placed into such opportunities.

Surprised he doesn't have the fire left in him to coach, but it's not like he's got anything left to prove. A Cup and Olympic Gold medals, only missing a Jack Adams. Guy was obviously a prick but this is still surprising.

At 59, and armed with eff you money, seems like a good set up for an official, permanent exit from the game.
