This might be one of the most embarrassing races for 8th place I've ever seen. Every team in the hunt basically has a losing record in their last 10, pathetic.

Here's one for ya

1987/88

Leafs and North Stars

Leafs go 2-8 in their last 10 games and finish with 53 points on the season

North Stars finish 1-6-3 and earn 52 points for the year

Leafs get into the playoffs and lose in Round 1 against Detroit. Ahh the eighties

If these playoffs position hold there will be some good opening rounds.

Probable winners: Bos, Tor, NYI, NYR.

7 / 11 from the west.
Ekholm appears to have been a great pick-up for the Oilers.

I imagine the Oilers would reeeeeally love to catch Vegas. This would allow them to dodge LA or Vegas in R1, and instead lock in against Winnipeg or Seattle.

Huge gap in probability to win between those potential matchups.

I think Boston could have a hard time against Sorokin if that matchup happens. I think they will sweep the Pens if they get them instead.

NYR has to be a little terrifying for NJ or Carolina fans.

I went to the game four 8-0 loss to Detroit. It was even uglier than it sounds.

It was a Sunday game, and we bought tickets at the box office the day of the game. That's how bad it was in the 80s.

Oilers have a really good team. Lots of speed and a heavy team too. In the regular season, they can outscore their defensive lapses and goaltending issues.

Question is will they be able to survive in the playoffs tight checking and less PPs?

Looking at the West, I think Seattle seems to be the easiest. As long as Helle is net, Jets will always be tough. Even the Flames could be a tough out if Marky take over games.
Goalies just need to be the best player in 4 games to steal a series.
