That's not the problem though, the problem is the leafs get complacent when things become favourable for them.
The actual problem is that our goalies - mostly our #2, #3, and #4 goalies - have posted some poor showings against bottom feeders.
For the record, Samsonov is 7-0-2 against teams with a 0.500 record or below.

Pffft, get out of here with rational thinking and facts.

Don’t you know the sky only has one job? Falling

Blaming it on goalies is easy, but watching the games you can see the Leafs play terrible as well

Columbus was a perfect example, Woll wasn't great and let in some poor goals, but the team completely shut down and stopped playing. It was to the point Keefe himself said it. Another example off the top of my head was the Anaheim OT loss earlier in the season when Kallgren was playing

Or this team has flaws that we can sometimes acknowledge lol

Watching the games, you can see the Leafs largely dominating play in those games, and getting much better and more chances, and even when not playing to their highest potential, still outperforming their opponent. Blaming it on goalies is actually not easy, because goals skew the casual fan's perception, and even when it's undeniably attributable to goaltending, the majority of this board refuses to acknowledge it, and blames the skaters and whatever narrative they like.

Simple fact is, when the Leafs have gotten a SV% over 0.900 (which is still below league average, for the record), the Leafs are 7-0-1 against teams with a record of 0.500 or below.
Every single loss to a 0.500 or below team was a 1 goal game. We average 3 goals for and an 0.868 SV% in those losses.

If you think the Leafs dominated those games we're simply not going to agree. I have no idea how anyone can walk away from Saturday's game and think we dominated, we gave up 40 shots to the Columbus Blue Jackets. I will say the first was great, but the leafs sat back after and CBJ outworked us

Also, I'm not sure how valuable those numbers are since you're usually going to have a high save% in games you win and low save% in games you lose. For example, last year the Leafs were 34-3-1 in games they had above a .900, Nashville was 36-7-4, NJ 20-10-3, Buffalo 24-7-7 etc.

Didn’t realize it but the Red Wings have pushed themselves towards a WC with Buffalo

Might have a nice race for that last two spots

The Leafs skaters were better in most of these losses. Yes, Columbus got 40 shots - which is an outlier among these games, but that still only really represented about 2.3 expected goals of value, because it was a result of taking a lot of stationary, low percentage shots. The 2nd goal against was the result of a horrible rebound given up off a weak backhand, the 3rd goal against was the result of the goalie fumbling the puck in the crease and giving the opponent an open net, and the 4th goal against was a high stick deflecting the puck straight down out of the air. It wasn't from outworking us.

From a coaching perspective, you want more from your team against a team like Columbus than dominating the 1st and then breaking even the rest of the way - which is what actually happened - and you obviously can't throw public blame at your rookie goaltender, but let's not get confused about what group of skaters was better and the biggest reason we lost.
Also, I'm not sure how valuable those numbers are since you're usually going to have a high save% in games you win and low save% in games you lose.
And why is that? Because good goaltending helps you win, and bad goaltending helps you lose.
Goaltending is very impactful on game outcomes, and it was very impactful on these game outcomes by being bad in a high number of these games.
You talked about the Columbus game, but the other 3 regulation losses to these teams came with a 0.810, 0.826, and 0.833 SV%. I'm not sure how you're supposed to win with that.

Pretty much neck and neck with Buffalo and Washington for the 8th spot. With Ovechkin not playing for the next little bit, Detroit has a chance to take possession of it.
They play Washington next Tuesday.

Jets lose to Blue Jackets. Clearly not a contender, another 1st round loss coming up. They need to make a huge move by the trade deadline, something seriously wrong with that team
This sarcasm/joke would be funnier if we actually made it past the 1st round at least once with all this talent we have.

Flames losing to Detroit who are on a back to back. Ouch.

Gotta think its time to can Sutter.

Man that Sutter shine wears off quickly.

They'll hang onto him for too long.

Edit - not only that but Detroit climbs within 2 points of a WC spot AND has 3-4 games in hand over the Isles, Panthers, and Caps who are above them.

Buffalo is 2 points behind Detroit but has 4-5 games in hand over those same teams.

This man is looking like damaged goods. More and more looking like seravalli tweet this summer about the Canucks potentially looking to move demko cause of injuries is more true.

Watching Tampa play, I definitely think they were better last year than this year, despite their record.

I think we match up better against them this year too...

IN SAYING THAT

Their stars were pretty pedestrian last year and they still won the series...can't always bank on that, man this format sucks ass lol.
