Speaking of the Isles harder to name a stranger/more outright disappointing development that a guy like Barzal.

Dude storms the league with a over ppg rookie season and then slowly regresses into a decent top sixer. Only 15 goals this season too.

Big rookie year sheltered behind JT (and playing with him on the PP) but a other than that actually pretty steady aside from some minor sh% varistions looks like.

Yr1: 5v5 2.88p60, 9.6oish% ----- PP 5.56p60, 15.9oish%
Yr2: 5v5 2.04p60, 7.8oish% ----- PP 4.16p60, 9.5oish%
Yr3: 5v5 2.11p60, 8.0oish% ----- PP 4.18p60, 10.2oish%
Yr4: 5v5 2.52p60, 10.1oish% --- PP 3.12p60, 9.6oish%
Yr5: 5v5 1.95p60, 8.1oish% ----- PP 5.76p60, 13.1oish%

First year is the only year with a big oish% at both evens and the PP.

Back when Eichel was with Buffalo, tons of people made excuses for him due to his supporting cast and believed if he ever ended up on a decent team he'd be better than Matthews. I think those people overlooked the fact that it's still a huge advantage for a player to be the lone guy expected to generate offense. He got a lot more PP time than Matthews, way more puck touches, and didn't have to worry about defense or having a competitive season. He got to just rack up points in anonymity and never have to turn that into results.

Of course, now he has to share the puck with other skilled offensive players and be a cog in a team that aims to be competitive and he looks completely lost. Maybe he'll figure it out, or maybe he's just not built like that

Buffalo was a near perfect situation for Eichel's play style. He got to forego playing defense and could be a puck hog all he wanted.

Those comparisons with Matthews were cringe. The obsession with comparing Eichel's sophomore year with Matthews' rookie year was funny because it's the only way they could make the comparison be adequate.

Don't worry. Now that Eichel doesn't have the "team" or "linemates" excuse, his fans are going to milk the injury excuse forever.

Eichel is nothing but a whiner. I relished every post-game interview at locker clean-up so I could hear him blame every one else for his team being utter shit.

Now he's with Vegas and his slim playoff hopes were riding on Arizona and the goaltender they swiped from Toronto in Scary Sateri. Those dreams are now crushed. I love it!

Sateri .822% and nearly 6GAA lmao bullet dodged.

Makes you wonder what the Leafs saw in him.

Dallas made it easy on him in the third period though, barely had 2 shots and secured the lone point to clinch.

Stars lost it in OT 4 to 3, were up 3 to 1 in the third. Lol

Arizona and Montreal both refusing for better lottery odds, both pick up wins tonight. Lol hilarious.

Dallas is a dumpster fire, wouldn't shock me if they got swept.

Vegas with 3 shootout Ls in a row. Zero goals in 17 attempts :biglaugh:

Barzal's goal scoring early on went against his junior days. He wasn't a goal scorer there. This is more in line what we expected

Yes, I did believe the team that had always made the playoffs would match well with the player that had yet to make it there before. No, I'm not at all intending for the aforementioned to suggest that strong of a correlation exists.

While referencing Barzal's rookie season, those arguing early on about Barzal being better than Marner do not point out the fact that despite being the same age and in the same draft class, Barzal did not crack the NHL until a year after Marner did.
