Did Vancouver seriously have nobody better than Nick Petan to put out in the shootout with their season on the line lol?

Don’t know why they wouldn’t have gone with Horvat instead. I guess his shootout numbers must suck but jeez. Putting your season in the hands of Nic Petan does not sound wise.

Yup, won in OT.

Both Boston and Florida pickup two points tonight.

Florida 116 points, six games remaining
Toronto 108 points, 5 games remaining
Tampa 100 points, 6 games remaining
Boston 99 points, 6 games remaining.
The Atlantic is going to have a 120+, 113-115ish team and two 105-110 teams…. That’s wild

Horvat is likely done for the regular season.

A one-legged Horvat may have been a better choice than no magic, Nic "Peter" Petan.

As good as Leafs have been since acquiring Gio, Florida are 10-0-0 in their last 10 and have won 11 in a row, all without their #1 stud dman. A Florida-Toronto ECF would be sweet.

Tampa lost to Detroit last night. If they can't turn on the switch once the playoffs start, they might be very beatable.

Sadly it is more like a Toronto-Florida 2nd round matchup. Looking like we will be spending lots of time in Florida if we want to go deep this year.

That is possible. We are either going Tampa to Florida or Boston to Florida to get to the ECF. No easy roads.

The road out of the division, might be harder than the rest of playoffs. But, you've always got to beat quality teams at some point, to win the cup.

Not a fan. Higher seed should always play the lower seed.
Agreed. The whole format is bunk. Your performance in regular season is supposed to carry reward (specifically home ice advantage). Any system where you could finish 4th in the league, go to the final and not once get home ice is bad from the start.

My mistake, think you'd have to finish 5th overall for that to happen.

and they do... within the division. Yes, I get it... but that's the way it works for now.

I agree, it's kind of crazy.

"If" we manage to get to the Cup finals, our road would have likely been through (as of now) the 9th ranked team in the league, to play the 2nd ranked team in the league, and likely either the 4th or 5th ranked team in the league.

Colorado on the other hand is set to play the 16th ranked team in the league, followed by either the 7th or 8th ranked team in the league, followed by the 6th ranked team... at worst.

Calgary to make it to the Conference finals, would have to go through 14th ranked in league, followed by either 13th or 15th in the league.

Surprised I didn't see this highlight shared yesterday of that Boqvist goal. Not only does Pietrangelo get walked in slow motion but Lehner doesn't even realize Boqvist shot the puck as it's behind him in the back of the net.

Exactly. Hope the boys take care of business, put it to bed and rest some players in FLA and WSH. Then run the playoff lineup vs DET and play the Marlies vs BOS ;-)
It is growing more and more likely that our last game of the season could determine whether we face Boston or Tampa, given they're separated by a point with 6 games remaining.

Imagine this scenario:

You beat Boston and you get Tampa in Round 1

You lose to Boston and you get Boston in Round 1

How would you approach the final game of the season with the above scenario riding? Would you want to tank the game and get Boston? Or, play your studs and still lose and get Boston and give them some momentum? Of course, you could hammer them and get Tampa as the reward.

Could be a most interesting final game of the season.

*Boston holds RW tiebreaker as of this moment with a 2-game lead in that category. A Boston and Tampa tie in the standings puts Boston into the 3-seed.

Remaining schedules for Tampa and Boston:

Interesting both Tampa and Boston close out on back-to-backs. Tampa gets 2 roadies and Boston gets a homer and then a roadie in Toronto.

In my world, bury whoever you play, whenever.

Last year lots of people were hoping for the series to continue for other reasons. I was the guy saying "nonsense, step on their throat".

Just kill.

I don't like this format at all. It's hard to understand why conference finals should be based on divisions. Why? It should be four best teams not four best teams. This isn't NFL. We play 82 games regular season and some teams get reamed by this format.

That should be the attitude and I don't really care if it's Bruins or Lightning. It is what it is.

Though for league this is format is idiotic, you can play 82 regular season game and it's worth nothing. You can't even up conferences, but inside conference it should be high seed vs. low seed. It's only reasonable format when you have this long regular season to define those seeds.

Complaining about playoff format should be an offseason thing. Right now, it sounds like we are making excuses.

Toronto is the best, most complete team in the NHL as long as Campbell is playing decent. Arguably on the same level as Colorado. Teams and their fans should worry about them, not the other way around.
