I hate that trade so much that I can't get over it. Rask was a gem in Finland, when you saw him play you knew he could make it. He had the character. Then we trade him away. I was furious at the time and it still annoys me, even though Rask is retired. Huge lost opportunity.

He was also bit of a puppet, so it's really hard to judge him because you don't know how much ownership intervene him. I think he wanted a rebuild and was denied.

I'm completely with you on the first part. That trade still sickens me to this day.

Completely disagree with the second part. Even if he wanted to rebuild and was denied, unless ownership negotiated that trade themselves and had him execute it making him the truest and ultimate puppet, it was a moronic move to make. He wanting to rebuild doesn't absolve him of making a stupid and ridiculous trade.

Andrew freakin' Raycroft.

I wouldn’t mind trotz if we go out in the first round.

The caps were able to have success scoring and playing D with trotz. If we are stuck with Campbell going forward…. He might help with getting the most out of him.

It’s weird. I have watched these games kinda numb and expecting to lose. I feel like the habs series broke whatever was there but I had this weird feeling that the teams would alternate the first 4 and Toronto would win 5/6.

Then keefe and Campbell are safe.

IF we go out. I would be looking at

Trots as coach.
Lehner/helle/Gibson in goal.

Actually didn't meant Rask-Raycroft trade with that comment, but his fingerprint in overall. I think it was idiotic decision in any case, that you have two great goalie prospects and you decide trade one. Young goalies are voodoo and if you're in that position that you can develop two and keep better one you should do it every time. If you have two best goalies in WJC only idiot GM starts picking one or another, because you don't know how it goes after that.

I still remember when I heard about that trade. I was furious. I saw Raycroft in Finland and he wasn't sound and developed goalie. He was work in progress with bad attitude. Nothing special. Late 90s and 00s and early 10s we had tons of great goalies with variating techniques and personalities. Raycroft was nothing special, but Rask had it.

Well better not to think about it. JFJ f***ed up with Rask trade. Big time.

What I meant with my comment was that I give some slack to JFJ. He got into position where he couldn't succeed and his body of work is always tarnished but half of the blame should go to our owners. If he had balls to tell our owners that we should rebuild I give him some respect, it was only viable option after 2003-2004 season and it took over decade before we started our rebuild. It was wasted decade.

Uncle Lou should have fired himself for roster construction before the coach to be honest.
It seems like they have young coach coming up and it might be that they had to make same kind of decision what we made with Lou and Dubas. Oh the irony!

If they keep the old guy, they lose the young one. If that was the case it's hilarious.

Not too surprised with the firing of Trotz. Some sort of change has to take place when playoffs are the expectation that goes unrealized, and I don't know how much of that roster can realistically be shuffled over the course of the offseason?

Yeah, I hear you. I don't have much care of sympathy for JFJ for how he ran this team, or how he wanted to but supposedly wasn't given a chance to. Although I do definitely agree that there was meddling going on.

Leafs need to hire Trotz today. Keep it hush an until after the series

hire him and put trotz in now! but keefe needs to be crapping his pants now knowing that he's probably done if the leafs lose this series with a good coach that can be hired to replace him.

Lol. That hiring was likely all due to ownership at the time.
My guess is Eugene's poor health and passing didn't leave McGuire enough time to execute his master plan to undermine and replace Dorion, too bad I'd love to see the windbag have to pull off his overconfident vision.
His roster would be full of sons and relatives of crony hockey men who played NCAA in New England or mInnesota.

Also interesting because the Isles actually had a strong second half of the season.

They are like bottom 5 for the first half after that long road trip to start the season and COVID/injury issues but put themselves in the middle of the pack by seasons end.

To me it means they would easily rebound next season. What a bad move.
