If the Leafs bow out of the 1st round, I think they should consider hiring Trotz.

What a bone headed move by Lou and the Isles.

Very weird move. Isles were unlucky this year as they got hit by covid hard earlier in the season

I dont think the young players could relate to Trotz

But thats Lou for ya. He doesnt second guess his decisions

With Trotz available, it opens the door to change management if they lose to Tampa. Everybody except 34 and anybody with a NMC is on the clock.

Trotz also won a cup with a Capitals team that was more built like the Leafs. I think he's really just a good coach who can adapt to the team he has, and the Islanders just play that way because they have minimal talent. And the best part about Trotz is that he comes with Mitch Korn

I have been very critical on veteran coaches who's names have been thrown around here like Tortorella or Boudreau, but I'd get Trotz in a second if it's possible and wise thing to do. We'll know what we should do after the playoffs, if we can't get trough first round I'd do a bold move and go after Trotz. Proven veteran coach with winning pedigree could help our core and he proved in Nashville that he can evolve and players respect him.

Cruel fact is that our core is what it is. Matthews, Marner and Rielly either make it or not. You build around those guys and adding veteran leadership is gamble like we have seen with Tavares, so getting veteran coach might be the move that could help. We can shuffle secondary pieces and get new goaltender etc. but if our top dogs don't figure it out in the playoffs we're doomed.

If I have to guess he wanted out, might be retiring or needs a break. Can't think any other reason that Isles let him go.

If the Leafs could hire Trotz and somehow shed the 18 million cap hit that 2nd line eats up.

If they lose out on Thursday the Leafs will also be looking for a GM which complicates matters.

Dreger did mention he wanted to get into management, so we're safe.

There is no way he would be okay with our lack of "Matt Martin" types. Imagine Trotz looking at a line of Nylander - Kerfoot - Kase lol.

I do think Tavares could rejuvenate his career under Trotz, though.

Can't remember the last time a Leaf powered their way to the net like Grundstrom just did and scored. Holy cow.

To be fair. Grundstrom can’t remember the last time he did that either.

Raycroft is the perfect example how numbers can lie. Hes tied with Belfour for 2nd most wins as a leaf. Yet he sucked so bad and that team didnt even make the playoffs

Raycroft also played 72 games one season and that wins number is skewed considering that was the introduction of shootouts.

He’s the worst leafs starter I can recall seeing in my lifetime. That or Toskala

Vegas would be good. They too have to shed cap space and find a number 1 goalie.

The Caps were a very tough team through all their contending years. They've had mean players for over a decade, both forward and defence.

Stop it with the narrative stuff, I'm not trying to do anything. Just saying that I think Dubas and Trotz see the game differently.
