There is a huge article praising the Sens effort and wins recently when they suck and their fans really have the audacity to say that TSN and Sportsnet are biased towards the Leafs lol.

I don't really like that move for the Flames. That's 4.25 million that isn't going to be going to Gaudreau, Tkachuk or Mangiapane, all of whom are better.

I think they should've put those assets towards a 2C. Upgrading their 5th best winger isn't what the doctor ordered.

I don't think Calgary really cares TODAY what happens next season which is the approach you need to have to win. They just added another pure goal scorer who plays with edge to their team. Calgary could very well make a deep run. If they win the cup I don't think they care if Gaudreau walks.

Point of it all is they just added another lethal offensive weapon to an already loaded team.

Mark Stone to LTIR (back injury) and Eichel to debut on Wednesday. McCrimmon not sure to what extent the back injury is.

If I had to guess I imagine his back injury will start feeling much better come April or so.....

I know this isn’t hockey related but similarly that was told about James Harden or at least implied in the NBA all-star draft by Chuck and it was hilarious

Don’t hate the player, hate the game.

Surprised we haven’t seen the Leafs do this cap circumventing move yet. They’re usually savvy with these loopholes.

Not really. Shane Wright is closer to Lafreniere, Hischier etc than a slam dunk top end talent.
Well I said optimal results lol. Finishing one place shy of last playoff spot will mess up their pick the most. I'm not giving Scabs first pick just because Wright isn't a slam dunk

Also not fair government only allowing 50% capacity for leafs games yet senators can have full capacity at 9 thousand fans!!;)

No NHL player is going to sit out for 2.5 months until the playoffs start just so another player can play.
Why wouldn't they? They get to get rested up for the playoffs, their team gets significantly better so they have an increased chance of winning. For a player with nagging injuries or is just getting older it is literally a no brainer.

Do you think Matthews or Marner would willingly sit out if healthy based on these reasons? I highly doubt it.

I think Tavares would. I also don't think these are perfectly healthy players either. I am sure Stone does have a nagging back injury...that he could play through if that was what benefited his team. The second it now benefits his team to not play through the injury he is on IR the rest of the year.

For a player with injuries, yes, this is a no brainer. But no healthy player is willingly going to sit out of games just so Eichel can play. Thats not the mindset these players have.

You have to be in a pretty unique spot with a high value player on LTIR, not really something you can plan for
Yup, need to have a high cap hit player on LTIR and a player with a very similar cap hit who was injured right before they return.

For the leafs it would be something like Marner was on LTIR and so the leafs added a bunch of deadline adds putting them over the cap when Marner returns. By 'chance' JT gets injured at a similar time to Marner's return and he is thrown on LTIR before Marner is activated

Leafs could literally claim Tavares has a bad back, ltir him at the deadline, add about $30m worth of players, then activate the healed Tavares for game 1 of the playoffs.

That would work too though I imagine you would want some pretext for the injury lol.

Edit: also leafs haven't been accruing cap space so I dont think he would open up 30 million in signings. His 1/2 year of 11 million has already counted towards the cap or whatnot
