GDT: Around the League - 2021/22 PART III

Holy. Just took a peek at the standings. FLA and TB are ridiculous!!

So, the EAST playoff teams are set aren't they? I cannot see any of those teams sitting on the outside making enoough of a run to get ahead of those already in the top 8. Now, the battle for home ice I guess is what matters.

I wouldn't say that. We're not even at the half way point of the season. Most teams have over 40+ games left to play. things can change.

Detroit is closet and they are 7 points back but have played 4 more games than 8th place Boston lol. Don't see anyone in the top 8 falling out they are all good teams and the bottom 8 are pretty bad.
 
Bos has jumped into top 10 now.

Fla, TB, Tor and Bos all top 10 in the league. Going to be one hell of a playoff battle

Yea, and if you look at the goal differential, there is also a pretty big gap between the top 8 and everyone else... I feel unless something out of the ordinary happens (quite possible based on these last two years) these are the 8 playoff teams. The worst plus-minus for the top 8 is +18 for the Rangers, the best for the bottom teams is -15 for Columbus. The Islanders would be the only team I could see going on a legit run, but they are 18 points back with 5 games in hand. So even if they win all their games in hand they are still 8 points out... that is a tough ask.

Things could get wonky in Feb after the all-star game when the teams will be trying to make up all the postponements I guess, but to make up that kind of point differenital would be quite the achievement.

I also enjoyed seeing the empty stadium for Arizona vs the leafs
Arizona fans think matthews is coming home when ufa yet when he comes home to play none of their fans care enough to come watch him hahaha. I know they suck but that is their hometown hero
He was trying so hard for an empty stadium
 
Ottawa.. such promising talent but their don’t appear to be optimizing their development and do not have much veteran insulation/leadership to help them along.

Could be problematic for their rebuild
