Their glaring weakness last year was a lack of a #1 C, and they've added an elite one. They're going to be a problem in the playoffs.

Secondary scoring was an issue for them all year.
Fleury carried them and when he turned into a playoff pumpkin they were all but done. It was very predictable.

The NHL and the National TV need them to do well, and I certainly hope they do, but I’m still concerned that they’ve lost their identity and I don’t think Jack Eichel is the answer.

Hope I’m wrong and they start playing better hockey.

While watching Florida dismantle the Dallas Stars yesterday 7-1 it convinced me this team is for real.

Florida and played 23 home games this year and won 20 of them and in those 20 games the Panthers have scored 4 or more goals 19 times.

This is the team I feared would be battling our Leafs in the Atlantic for a playoff spot, and watching them this year has confirmed they're going to be a problem.

Florida is really good but them beating up on a bad team isn't really that convincing to me.

What's more convincing is their 8-2-1 record against Washington, Tampa, NYR, Colorado, and Carolina

Funny enough half of their regulation losses have come against bad teams - Seattle, Ottawa, LA, and New Jersey

While watching the game yesterday they put up a graphic that showed 6-7 Florida players are having career years goals/assists on pacing.

We're about to test that under-preforming vs bad teams theory out, because Florida next 5 games are against CBJ, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and Seattle.

If that was our Leafs schedule we would be excited to be putting some upcoming wins in the bank. But lets hope Florida stumbles because they all look like winnable games based on how well they're currently playing this year.

I agree. The idea of dropping down being a good thing is something else I don't agree with.
Eh I just don't think it matters. It isn't good or bad. 4th is no better or worse then finishing 3rd. Is facing Carolina in the 1st round that much worse then Florida or Tampa? Marginally if at all. We are playing a killer regardless of our final placing.

Sam "I am bad at hockey" Bennett with the hat trick last night. Now tied in goals with our $11m #2C and 8 ahead of our $10.893m winger.

The way things are trending...

I think panthers are going to win the division that means Leafs either get Tampa in 1st roudn OR Canes/Panthers on a wildcard spot

I'd like Leafs to win the division but the probability of that is less than 50% IMO

Their depth scoring is amazing ... .

They pointed out that a guy like Carter Verhaeghe, after he scored last night has now scored 29 goals in his last 72 games in a Florida jersey (36 games this year and last 36 of last year).

That is essentially scoring 2 goals every 3 games on average or 33 goal pace on a full year based on that. For $1.0 mil cap that is suppose to be depth roster player that is pretty surprising.

If we compare that to say William Nylander for example who has 16 goals this in 35 games this year and his last 37 games of last year he had 13 goals = 29 goals in last 72.

Most Leafs fans are very pleased and excited with Nylander's contribution and performance so you can just imagine on a team like Florida when they get that from a player like Verhaeghe. Heck a player like Anthony Duclair has 15 goals already on pace for 33 this year.

Jack Edwards can provides marvellous entertainment, when your team isn’t playing the Bruins at least.
Marchand gets lightly brushed by an arm in a corner battle and crumples in a dramatic fashion.
Jack yells “Marchands hit by an elbow and he’s down and Marchand is NOT a diver.”
Replay immediately shows Brad taking a huge dive, after barely being touched Brickley says well Marchand broke his nose recently and any contact can be painful.
Jack remains silent.
He’s so bad he’s great.

If FLA gets #1 and TB gets #2 in the division I'd like to drop to the wild card

Avoid Tampa at all costs

You just knew Marchand was going to score shortly after you were criticizing him. :)

Before we award Florida the division title, let's remember that they've had a very home heavy schedule thus far. They're elite at home (20-3-0), but not great on the road (5-4-5) with only 2 wins in their last 9 road games. Granted, almost all of their road losses have been by 1 goal.

We'll see how they do in the second half with all of those road games.

B's win, their 8th win in the last 9 games
FLA has won 7 of their last 8 and has points in all 8 games
TB has won 4 of their last 5

Taylor Hall just scored to give Boston the win OT against Nashville the top team in the West..

Bruins have now won 8 of their last 9 games.
