Funny how Kadri gets a cheapo penalty for obstructing Jared McCann in the Seattle game but it’s put away the whistles when the Avs are tripping up Leafs guys.

Boston with victories in 5 of their last 6, now on pace for 103 points yet stuck in the 8th seed

This conference is something else

8th place team with a 92.4% chance of making the playoffs according to money puck lol. Next best team is the Isles with a 9% chance.

Might as well just call the playoff race in the east. Just seeding up in the air really.

Its a 4 horse race in the Atlantic Div this year as was expected, and with Bruins having Rask on the doorstep to return the race is going to get a lot closer down the stretch in the 2nd 1/2 the season.

Odds of making the playoffs [ Atlantic Div ] as of Jan 11th, 2022

Florida ..... 99. 3%
Toronto ... 99.3 %
Tampa ..... 98.4 %
Boston...... 95.0 %

One of these 4 teams will be battling for the wild card spots in the East.

You told us that the Leafs would be in tough to hold off the Habs for a wildcard spot, tho.

Not to mention all the Metro teams likely pushing us out of a wildcard spot too.

checking in on Kadri.

40 points in his last 21 games.

in comparison, McDavid has 29 points in that span.

He’s having a hell of a contract year. Good for him.

Yep, after 3 straight 'disappointing' years including only 11 goals and 32 pts last year where Avs fans wanted him jettisoned into the sun, plus another playoff suspension - the guy is absolutely killing it in his contract year.

Love the guy but some team is going to pay him like a 2-way #1C after this season and get a 3C - probably the Oilers.

The reports of Boston’s demise have been exaggerated

No idea how they keep doing this year after year despite continual thinning depth

They have that killer instinct that Shanny says Leafs do not.

To date I'd say 63, 88 and 37 > 34,91,88 and 16 when it comes to will to win.

he's going to be MTL's #1 C. You can book it, they need a #1 C, he grew up a Habs fan. I'm sure he wants to be back in Canada. I can see it happening.

No doubt about that. That said I'd love to see the Leafs play the Bruins in the 1st round again, not because I think they will win but because for me it will be a true measure of what these guys can do.

They'd have a chance to slay some demons and show they've taken the next step, if they win it will be a huge. If they don't it's the final nail in the coffin for this group, fall to the Bruins again and the core is done. Either way it will provide some real clarity compared to a loss against say Tampa, some might just sweep that away and say "they're the two time defending champs, we played well (assuming it was close), try it again next year".

Yeah, that's a good prediction. Maybe less likely with Bergevin gone but still a good bet.

If Bergevin was still there I'd say they would have offered him something insane, max term and pushing 10 million per. And then he'd have a 15 goal 32 point season and only get worse from there.

I'd love to play the Bruins over either Florida team. It probably means we won the Atlantic ;)

I think they just have a winning team culture over there and IMHO that is the one thing that we've been missing these last few years. Of course there's no stats for this so some people will laugh at this but every time a playoff series come down to one game, we just fade away without putting up a fight and what else could the reason be? I've asked many times for people to explain why this happens and nobody has a good answer, just excuses for why we lose without answering the question of why our level of play plummets as the stakes rise. I sure hope things are different this season but not sure that I can point to anything that would signal a substantial culture change, maybe the biggest hope is that Campbell can steal one for us.

Yeah as much as it would be funny to see Montreal handcuff themselves like that don’t see them signing Kadri just because they don’t have the cap space.

I guess they could make some but another big contract would hurt their future.

But maybe ownership wants to win now and retool quickly :dunno:

The recipe to beating the Leafs has been to force them to play outside their comfort zone. Pretty sure this recipe is going to get another test this April when they play one of the Florida team. Win that series and the monkey will be off their backs. Lose it and we will know what it felt for Sens fans to lose to those Pat Quinn Leaf teams.

I would think that once he got out of Toronto he'd be hesitant to sign in another big media market.
