Atlantic teams showing Calgary just how weak the pacific is.

The west is pure poop.

I read somewhere that the Flames are now 6-6-4 vs teams currently in a playoff spot. Not as bad as Boston (3-7-1 after losing tonight), but definitely not good.

Sutter has a good system in place, but they need way more talent up front and probably another D to avoid playing Zadorov/Gudbranson

Much rather play Florida than Tampa in round 1. Hope Tampa wins the division if we don't.

see part of me wants tampa. We always play them well. And that would be the ultimate test. Plus one groin tweak or bad week from vasi and that’s game.

ERod didn't want to sign here, and Dubas never had Verhaeghe in his control. There were 29 other GMs who failed getting him to sign as a UFA
I don't recall reading E.Rod didn't want to be here, did you?

Verhaeghe - I didn't mean we had him in our control but I read a couple reports at the time that the leafs passed on signing him because he wanted 1 million. Below is one article i found from a quick search. Dubas didn't pay the qualifying offer for E.Rod but he wanted to bring him back and said to the media he thought there would be a good opportunity here if E Rod wanted it..implying it would be at the expense of a lower contract. E Rod signed in Pittburgh for 900,000.... there is no concrete evidence of this but seems to align with what the rumors of what Dubas wanted to pay for depth Diamond in the rough type deals and let's face it he didn't have the cap space to pay more (unless he passes on the veteran depth and toughness he went with in Simmonds, Thornton and Spezza).

When Dave Morrison headed up the Leafs amateur scouting, he drafted Carter Verhaeghe from the Niagara Ice Dogs. When he was moved to pro scouting, he recommended the Leafs consider Verhaeghe as a free agent (Lou Lamoriello traded him away in 2015). Dubas had some interest this off-season. He wanted lower-end free agents in the $700,000 range. Verhaeghe asked for $1 million. He wound up signing in Florida for $900,000. Verhaeghe, a Toronto kid, now leads the Panthers in goals with 17 and is third in points behind Jonathan Huberdeau and Sasha Barkov
Simmonds suhge doesn't explicitly say Verhaeghe would have signed for 1 million but it implies it.

Holy crap Mackinnon is on a heater

Guy is pacing for more assists than anyone on our team is points. Now If he could score the puck he’d be pacing for numbers better than prime Crosby and Mcdavid, heck he is doing that rn .

Dudes a stud, even when his pacing falls off

edit: I’m an idiot lol meant points not goals

How is pacing for more assists than other players in goals impressive? Dudes on pace for like 17 goals this year….

Tampa can play the same style of game as Boston or Montreal when they were kind of decent. Shutdown frustrating defensive hockey, and relying on their goaltending.

Matchup against Florida would be much more open hockey allowing the leafs to show their strengths.

They do this much more than anyone admits.

Is that really all that impressive? Last year there were 7 guys with more assists than the highest goal scorer in the league, which happened to be Matthews, and one of those 7 guys was MacKinnon.

Now if you had a guy who was pacing for more goals than anyone has assists, I would be impressed.

I'd much rather play Bobrovsky over Vasilevskiy in a 7 game series.
