Suter's the biggest injury imo. The guy is stellar at both ends and is often overlooked for what he truly brings onto the ice. Sure, they have a good d-corps compared to the Kings and Ducks but it is still going to hurt.

Toffoli is scoring his career average, how is disappeared??

Don't get me wrong I think he's expendable in the right deal, but to say he's disappointed and disappeared is a bit much. Unless expectations were to have a career year again, with Kempe for 90% of season

His career average?

So you are using seasons when he was 20, 21 and 22 to say that this is the player we should be expecting at 25, in the stone prime of his career?

The Kings expect way more than 45-50 points a year from Toffoli, I don't know how anyone can think otherwise.

I mentioned that Kopitar has 120 minutes more icetime shorthanded than Giroux. Apparently that doesn't mean he's any better defensively. Even though Giroux is 5th on his team for forwards with shorthanded ice time. Someone else take over please, i'm wasting my morning/day.

UPDATE: (and last post about it). Kopitar is "middle of the road PKer". Famous last words.

I don't think it's unfair to use his career average. It's possible 15-16 was a career year, and he won't hit those numbers again. There are only 2 players picked after Toffoli at #47 in 2010 that have more points. Only 1 has more goals. Maybe he's not a 30-35 goal guy. Maybe it's more 25ish. Maybe his knee injury last year is still bothering him, and it takes a year to get over that. Only time will tell.

Career year at 23, it's certainly possible but I doubt the Kings expected TT to be a 20-25 goal, 45 point player, especially in a year where he saw so much time on the #1 PP.

And Karlsson won't be playing for the Sens for the remainder of the season. He finished the last home game and picked up the puck. Looks more and more like he's done as a Sen.

So... Erik Karlsson to the Kings at the draft for Toffoli, Muzzin, Amadio, a future 1st round pick, and an additional, conditional 1st round pick (based on the condition the Kings re-sign Karlsson)?

Seems fair to me ;)

In terms of value and assets, it's akin to the package the Ducks sent to Edmonton to acquire Chris Pronger.

i could do without ever seeing management give away another 1st round pick ever again

It depends on the return. I don't think that are regrets over giving up a 1st to obtain Carter. On the other hand... the Lucic and Sekera decisions were desperation moves.

I'd say Karlsson is a wee bit better than those aforementioned players.

I have already said they are married to Kopitar now. He has had an amazing season. Looking forward to two in a row next season.

I don't think Muzzin and Martinez are "top" players, but they are very good NHLers.

My response is not limited to Kopitar, but he's an example. Veterans are kept for a variety of reasons. Trading just to get value doesn't help much long term.

Looking at most trades, you rarely get fair value.

Kopi, Doughty, Carter, and Quick are so good they get taken for granted.

Even last year when Kopi struggled you could tell he wasn’t right. (Wrist?)

I think this team can still do damage. Carter’s absence was a big hurt to a possible division championship.

Looking forward to seeing what Vilardi can become.

We had 3 picks in that draft... I totally forgot this ...

Imagine what could have transpired if Dave Taylor was proactive and packaged his #26 and #27 picks to move up. He could have selected a Parise or Getzlaf.

But who are we kidding? There were murmurings at the time that the Kings had interest in Hugh Jessiman. They likely would have purused him or Eric Fehr, seeing how they were upset about missing out on Anthony Stewart with one of their later picks (hence why they called a timeout). The goofs were clearly not prepared for an alternative option after Florida moved ahead of the Kings to select Stewart.

When Toffoli had his first big season at age 23, I thought we were looking at a player who would put up 60 points a season. The expectation wasn't unreasonable considering he was playing with Carter.

Is there anyone you would trade? I disagree, trading to get value does help in the long term.

And look at how guys like Mark Stone and Mike Hoffman have continued to be highly productive wingers on a team that doesn't have a center like Kopitar or Carter.

But hey, we should set our standards low and not expect any consistency. Just be happy with what you have guys, which is one single playoff victory and no playoff series wins in the past four years. We should be pleased with that result and not expect any of the young players to get any better.

Well, here is some surprising news we didn't expect to see.

"Just sucks that I couldn’t finish the season with @senators. On my way to LA to see the specialist. Hoping for some encouraging news. Will keep you posted."

Still can't believe Blake was able to get out of that contract...

Man, I wish Gaborik all the best. He was an absolute warrior for the Kings in the 2014 playoffs and the following season. So many goals right in front of the net. Not exactly what you expect when you hear the name Gaborik, but he could score any kind of goal you wanted to see.

I think you're misunderstanding me, or I didn't phrase it well enough (sorry, been fighting a kidney stone for weeks and on pain meds). You asked if the Kings aren't true contenders, why hang on to valuable assets.

I was saying why the Kings should hang on to valuable assets, as opposed to just trading them because they have value.

In a different climate, I don't disagree with the notion of trading Carter, Muzzin, Martinez, etc. But it's just not that climate. And they shouldn't be traded just because they have value.
