Don't look now, but we have 2 goals against more than the Preds for the lead and they have a game in hand.

With Nashville’s terrible effort tonight they slipped to third with a game in hand. Boston is now in second with one more goal against but with two games in hand. Top 5:

Kings 79 GP 193 GA
Boston 77 GP 194 GA
Nashville 78 GP 196 GA
Ducks 78 GP 202 GA
St. Louis 77 GP 202 GA (but already gave up 5 6 so far tonight)
...

Arizona laying the wood to the Blues. Very nice.

Wow. Coyotes just pile drived the Blues. Coyotes look like they could be good next season. but I will worry about that next season.

Unreal to see the jump in production for William Karlsson, who was a Ducks' 2nd round draft selection in 2011.

Last season with the Blue Jackets, Karlsson scored 6 goals and 25 points in 81 games.

This season he has scored 42 goals and 75 points in 79 games with a team that is in its first year of existence. To see that kind of jump in production in this day and age from a 25-year old player is impressive.

He has more goals than Toffoli and Pearson combined.

In terms of GA/GP where games played are normalized:

Kings 2.44
Nashville 2.51
Boston 2.52
Anaheim 2.59
Winnipeg 2.63

And that is why Burns is a -17. So risky on the pp [he deserved one for that] and Karlsson just blew right by him.

So I am torn
I know mathematically I should hope the Ducks win today, but my heart is saying let the Avs win today and the Kings can crush their playoffs chances tomorrow.

2 Avs regulation losses in the next 48 hours might seal it as far as the Kings getting in, the Kings would lead 96-92 in points and 42-40 in ROW, meaning the Avs could do no better than tie, and the Kings would hold a 4-0 head-to-head points advantage (the first game they played gets thrown out because the schedule is uneven).

Not sure about this, but for purposes of the Jennings Trophy, don’t they count the goals against given for shootout losses? If so, Nashville has a ton of shootout losses (7), so their GA would be 203 at present. Boston has 3 SOL and we have only 1, so I think this would help Quick’s bid for a second Jennings. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

The Ducks will be flying today, or they better be. A loss would hurt them with their low ROW's. If I'm Anaheim, I want to wrap it up in the next couple games because I certainly wouldn't want to travel to Arizona for that last game with the playoffs on the line. Now that Tippett, Doan, and Smith are gone, the whining, cheap play, and diving went with them and they could be a force again sooner than later.

The SO losses dont count.

For the hell of it I went back to the 2014/15 season, when Montreal and Chicago ended up tied in GA with 189 each, so Price and Crawford shared the Jennings despite being on different teams. I counted up the goals against for both teams, and the 189 did include the SOL goals. I know the NHL.com GA rankings use the true GA numbers posted by KingsKnight above, but it looks like for the Jennings Trophy we have an even bigger lead than that over Boston and Nashville.

Ho Sang has much more skill than Avery and Carcillo. Think poor man’s E. Kane.

If he could be had for cheap I’d give him a shot on Kopi’s line.

The NHL does count shootout losses in the goal count for the Jennings. It’s a single goal against regardless of how many are scored in the shootout.
