I wouldn’t be opposed to re-upping Folin for another year. He’s been pretty good for the most part in his role.

He may be looking to score a multi-year deal so maybe he’s one and done.

As noted above, the defense will be a fluid situation this offseason so it’s just going to depend on what Blake and Co. want to do going forward.
Yeah I imagine he gets a bit more than the Kings want to spend.

Martinez I think is your best bet. Will add a veteran presence with a reasonable cap hit. Kings might just be able to let him go with the maturation of Forbort and the addition of Phaneuf.

Folin is a solid bottom pairing guy. I think he'll be mostly interested in term. I could see Blake offering him a 2 year deal, possibly 3 if the cap hit is low enough. The organization likes him.

I love Folin but I get the feeling the secret is out and someone somewhere else will offer him more than we can. Dude is a stud for his role and wouldn't be surprised to see someone offer him not only more money and term but a bigger role.

I just don't see why the Kings will trade their D at this point. Along with Quick, it's the backbone of the team. We have Doughty, Muzzin, Martinez, Phaneuf, Forbort, and now Brickley signed for 2018-19. That's pretty great. LaDue could be #7 for cheap.

Unless Martinez can bring back a 2nd line forward for next season, can't see why we'd make a trade. John Quenneville probably won't fill that role immediately. Value wise, Quenneville + 2nd is about right, but I say, why mess with a good thing?

You trade a D when you have a better option coming up, and Clague's probably not ready.

I agree, just may depend on the X-Factor (Voynov). IF he comes back, I would say Martinez is likely on the block for a forward. Other than that, if it is working, why not stick with it.

So many balls in the air on D.

Current rotation
Forbort-Doughty
Phaneuf-Martinez
Muzzin-Folin
LaDue

AHL/extras
Clague, Fantenberg, Moverare, Brickley, Gravel... Voynov?

At least 2-3 won't be here in the next season or two. If we move a Muzzin/Martinez and replace with a LaDue which a few here have said is ready for top 4... suddenly we're looking at around $8+ million in short term cap space after everyone is signed. More than enough to bring back the roster (Rieder, Folin) or upgrade somewhere.

I think one of the biggest things Blake has done is give us options at all positions and levels.

This first year is starting to look like a major success from a restocking standpoint in terms of depth and prospects. The on-ice stuff is TBD, but the future is looking much better. Not bad at all given how hamstrung we were to start.

Blake is a true master of puppets. A plan he put into place years ago while serving as AGM will come into fruition tonight as J.F. Berube gets the start against Colorado. Tremendous foresight and truly spectacular the amount of strings he had to pull for that one.

I agree with RJ. Blake restocked the pipeline and got Phaneuf for Gaborik while improving the bottom 6. Add in the on ice results...

I'll take that and run.

I’m just wondering if you are JT and you look at that situation and roster, is it really that tempting to put pen to paper and sign with the Habs?

Price seems to be getting dinged up more often than not, their Defense isn’t very good and their GM is amateur hour.

Not sure if Tavares would want to play in a market like Montreal with all the media attention the Habs get. Just depends on his personality.

Vegas is interesting. I can see them being in the mix, especially if they let Neal and Perron walk, which I think will happen.

You know Bill Foley wants to continue to build on the momentum of a very successful inaugural season, regardless of the playoff result.

What say you, Dee?[/QUOTE]

John T- agree on the Habs not being a good fit for him, although he's pretty good friends with Price apparently. Too much drama there, way too much pressure, although I think he's strong enough to get by that .

I love JT, always have. Love everything about his game. I consider him top 5 in the NHL at center and not just for the goals and points. For every else he does, without the puck, to win games. I've seen him do that. IMO, he's one helluva leader and the lone reason that team has any success.

Loyal- I think he's a good guy, I think he has a good heart. I think he is truly torn because of the fanbase. I think he does feel loyal to them. But he is too smart to sign a 8 yr lease for a deck chair on the Titanic. He's best option is to thank them for all they done to support him and move one. Rumor that he'll do a sign and trade, which means he'll have a list of what teams he wants to go to. And there will be a good list.

Respect - I think he's earned the respect of just about everybody he's played against. Most players like him and respect what he stands for and does. So, I thnk most GM's would welcome him into the fold and locker room.

WHere?- Good question. Carolina has the ammo to deal for him and no team in the NHL needs a #1 center more than the Canes. However, I don't think the Isles will deal him in the division, and unless a deal blows them out of the water, I don't see them dealing him in the EC.
Although the LEafs would be a possibility. I've read that Marner numbers (he's got consistant numbers /production despite being on 2nd ,3rd and even 4th line)are so good, he /his agent will be asking more than the leafs want to pay for a winger. Esp since they have deep prospect pool and Nylander. I think rather than shell out that kind of dough for Marner, they'd trade him. ANd they could package a deal with him for JT. Matthews and JT would be a great 1,2 fit and JT would take some of the pressure off a young elite center trying to grow into his game/leader role.

Bolts -nope. And I know he's best buds with STamkos, but with what Stamkos got, Hedman has , JT will get, that's way too much cash for 3 players and then there is Kucherov who'll get a mint. Unless they'd rather have JT than Kucherov.

WC- Knights, maybe . Most players would love to play for Gallant and they have a good team there, and strong goaltending . They have the money.
Sharks- strong fit. Would be a great fit. . GOod team, good defense, strong goaltending, in the hunt most years. I think they are a leading contender
BLues- Have needed a legit #1 center for years and also leadership. Depends on what they'd be willing to give up.
Dark horse- Calgary. I've been reading that they are concerned about the lack of leadership, that the powers to be feel that is a leading cause for their nosedive. Too much pressure on young players. ANd they're will deal to get a legit leader in there. JT and Monahan would be a very good 1,2 punch and it wouild take some pressure off Monahan.

I think the Isles will deal him, the handwriting is on the wall. IMO as long as Garth snow is GM,t hey won't achieve anything. ALso, the fact their ownership has them in limbo as far as an arenas sucks. JT is far too smart and will move on.

Right now, I'd say the SHarks and Blues are in the lead.

Wow just awful news for the Avs. I wonder what they do with the goaltending tomorrow and Monday.

Have to figure the Avs are the long shots now with their schedule.

I'm sure Bernier would get the starts, no?

Good thing they have a more-than-capable backup.

At this point, whoever gets in certainly deserves it. They'll have more points than their Eastern counterparts, have to basically all round-robin each other to death, and will be overcoming a lot to just get things done. It's a great race.

Listening to Don Cherry go on and on about what a mistake it was to trade Reeves had me laughing my ass off. He acts like Reeves would be taking a regular shift making sure nobody touches Crosby and co. Reeves is more of a liability [ as we saw ] than anything.
