TSN was mentioning a sign and trade for Tavares. A good number of teams with deep prospect pools would give up something to get him.

Any thoughts on a contending team with a deep prospect pool doing a Brassard trade on steroids? The hurdle for those teams isn't so much as giving up prospects but rather it's the cap.

Toronto ropes in an intermediate team to retain salary on Tavares. A sign and trade to lower the AAV and an intermediate team just starting its rebuild to retain salary and lower the AAV even further. $2-3 million for the duration of the contract. The payoff to that intermediate team would have to be huge since that's dead cap space for 8 years.

Not likely but I can see a team with many good prospects considering it.

Does that ever happen in the NHL? I can't remember a team doing that in a long time.

Crazy ending to this Flyers Avalanche game. Avalanche with so many chances. Flyers bending without breaking.

EDIT: Thank you Flyers!

Thank you Philly.

The last five minutes of that Avs/Flyers game was absolute insanity. Can’t believe the number of chances the Avs had to draw even. They played like a desperate team.

The Coyotes also lead 3-2 against Vegas. Will the Kings take advantage of a tired team tomorrow?

Now is our turn to play like a desperate team, especially in the first period; and get the job done.
2 points, a must.

Arizona just beat TBL and VGK back to back, FWIW. Just want to point out it's going to be an entirely different game than Calgary and yeah desperation is the name of the game especially given Coyotes ALWAYS get up for our games...

Too many circumstances around the game tonight. Arizona played last night, so that means they'll be ready to go, or tired, either in the 1st period, or 3rd period. Plus they've been pretty good lately. I imagine the Kings can't help but think about tomorrow night, because it's a huge game, regardless of what happens tonight. Winning tonight could potentially make things easier by this time next week, so you have to try to focus against a team that remembers you beat them 6-0 last time they were in LA, while knowing what's scheduled 24 hours later. Plus, as always, you never know which Kings team will show up.

It's the fun time of year.

Devin Setoguchi is the last one I recall

Even the Setoguchi one wasn't a sign and trade in the sense that all three parties (both teams and the player) were aware what was happening. It hadn't come up until recently since the NHL didn't have a max contract length provision until the CBA in 2013. Most of the top players signed their extensions prior to that CBA just in case there were any drastic rule changes. So now some of those guys are hitting UFA in the next couple of years.

I'll be curious to see what kind of market there might be. The incentive for the acquiring team is to have that 8th year be cheap in order to help lower the cap hit. But if I was the agent for Tavares/Carlson, I'd be aiming for a deal that didn't take them to age 35. Give them a chance to cash in again at age 34 (assuming that 35+ older provision still exists in the next CBA). Then again, perhaps the player would be happy with security and a frontloaded contract which would be slightly easier to structure with an eight year deal.

According to a certain stats site, we're at a 88% chance to get in to the playoffs right now. If we win in regulation, it goes up to 92%. If we lose in regulation it drops down to 75%. That's a huge 17% difference.

I respect the Coyotes GDT they go straight to the point "f*** the Kings" no long paragraphs like the Ducks and Sharks fans to describe their loathing for us.

Coyotes are playing loose and with a lot more structure - and played two teams (TB, LV) that already clinched playoff spots - so I wouldn't attribute it to them being a better team at this point. But we still need to play the game, beat these puppies and get the 2 points.

Agreed and good on them. No need to sugar coat your dislike for another team.

The Yotes’ can go f*** off as well. Hope Keumper gets shit pumped tonight. No video tribute for you.
