Andersson has a hearing later today. It doesn't say in-person, so I think we can assume it will fall between $5000 (or whatever the max fine is) and 5 games.

I predict 2 games.

He got 4. Wow.
It looks worse to me than when I first saw it. I had the attitude that ppl were overreacting.. but I'm not pleased with that assessment any longer.

I am kinda shocked it's 4 games. Oooof. Not good all around.

I expected 2, mostly because he doesn't have a history. I'd expect 4-5 if it was Marchand or Wilson. That said, the event was the same. A careless and dangerous hit to the head. He'll be more conscientious moving forward.

Friedman just said Flames and Hanifin are making progress on an extension, and things look optimistic for him staying.
Good news. Wonder what that does with Lindholm. I always thought once him or Backs signed that it would be a domino effect.
Just realized that takes Raz out of the Heritage Classic. That's the 4th game. Wonder if Flames appeal it.
It was an idiotic play, surprised it was 4 though. 2 seemed about right with no history. Francis is saying the Flames will appeal.

The only issue I have with the suspension was in the video they said that the time of the incident made a difference. So you’re supposed to let a guy take a shot at the empty net because there is only a second or two left?

He absolutely should be able to hit him then. Of course he jumped into the hit so he deserved the suspension, but it shouldn’t matter whether it is in the first minute or the 59th.

Basically, situation doesn't make a hit illegal, but it is considered on a hit that is itself illegal as a factor in the type of punishment. If Andersson was not found to be guilty of charging or elbowing, the situation wouldn't matter (like when Bennett destroyed Simek at the end of that game with a clean hit).

If Andersson makes a dirty hit in the middle of the game to break up the rush it is looked at differently than if he does it in a situation where the only reason is to send a message or hurt a guy.

The same kind of thing got Scheifele a couple years ago when he blew up Evans, although I'd argue that overstep was even worse given there wasn't actually a rule broken on the hit by the letter of the rulebook.

Yeah I think the time of the game stuff is stupid. They had the option of running down the clock but instead went for the empty net. No self respecting team is going to left you score there. This should really be 2 games at most.
