Thread was sparked by an old guys conversation during a youth hockey tournament Saturday - Arenas named in Quebec after former NHL players and seventieslord making a comment in another thread that a Regina arena is named after Murray Balfour. Figured if the topic appeals to hockey devotees in Quebec an Saskatchewan it may have interest amongst the general board membership.

Distinction an Arena refers to the complex a rink refers to part of a multisport complex or part of a community center.

Will get the thread started with some Quebec arenas and rinks.

Herb Carnegie has an arena named after him in the Toronto area. Possibly a greater distinction than those named after the other fellows since he didn't get to play in the NHL.

Raymond Bourque has an Arena named after him in Suburban {St-Laurent} Montreal. Montreal Canadiens used to practice there on occasion in the Mid 90s, this while Raymond was still starring with the Bruins!!!;)

There is the Steve Yzerman Arena that is part of the Nepean Sportsplex in Ottawa.

Also the Larry Robinson Arena in Metcalfe, Ontario.

Ottawa also has a Brian Kilrea Arena. Best known as a junior coach and GM, he was also an NHL player.

You can add Jim Peplinski arena to that list for Ottawa as well.

Yup, right on Timmins a block north of Cote Vertu.

Eventually it'll happen and they'll retire, but there's the Modin & Zetterberg Hallen in Njurunda Sweden.

Which begs the question... how many current NHLers have rinks/arenas named after them?

Chase Place in Porcupine Plain, Saskatchewan is named after Kelly Chase. Perhaps the former NHL skater with the fewest career goals (17) to have a rink named after him.
