Are you more of a Lake Cabin or Beach Condo type of person?

1. A quiet, somewhat rustic cabin on a small lake, or
2. A modern condo overlooking the ocean, on a somewhat busy beach

You could choose both, but have to say which one you would enjoy more

Choice 1 during a Canadian lazy summer, choice 2 in a southern locale during a Canadian winter. Half the year you get peace and quiet solitude, and the other half you get warm sand, ocean breezes and eye candy on the beach.

It's interesting because a bungalow in the US usually has a particular architectural style, like the pic below, but I usually think of it as more of a full home. Kind of like a cottage.

Yeah, I don’t get the bungalow thing either.

I’m in Ontario and we refer to any one story house as a bungalow.

I sort of distinguish by level of sophistication:

camp (tent?) < cabin (rustic, no electricity or heat etc.) < cottage (limited amenities, poor furniture) < lake house (modern, granite countertops etc.)

To me, a chalet is only on a ski hill.

Me too except sometimes in the US a camp would be a series of cabins on a lake, or it might be one big one aka a lodge. Back in the day they had these a lot on the east coast, and now it's more of a summer thing folks will send their kids to like in the movie Parent Trap

That’s true - a lodge is a bit like a giant cabin hotel.

We have them here too.

I have a friend from Western Ontario and he was telling me about going to his camp and I had assumed tents, and he was like, “No, it’s like a building with siding and everything” and I was confused.

When I think of a cottage I usually imagine one of those Thomas Kinkade paintings, or something out in the country and rustic. Not a fan of Thomas Kinkade though.

How much bug spray do I have on me? If the answer is none, the lake option is definitely out.

Lake cabin that's been in our family since the late 80s was recently sold. Liked it a lot but the beach condo that's also been in the family for a long time gets more use. Cabin is closer but more matience costs, dock needs work, private road costs, etc.

Great weekend getaway but when it's not getting use it became a headache to keep up with. The condo is a timeshare and is easier to maintain.
